Best Office Chair

April 2, 2020 by prolonews Leave a Comment

After several hours of research, we have preselected thirty models, among which the hJh Office Ergohuman has established itself as a leader. Its excellent support, its modularity, and its headrest make it an office chair usable in a professional setting.

Best Office Chair

Why trust us

The Selectos editorial team spends thousands of hours researching, analyzing and comparing products in order to find those that offer the best value for money.

None of our articles are sponsored. We sometimes receive a commission when you buy a product through our links, which allows us to finance our work while remaining completely impartial.

How did we choose?

Since you are likely to spend several hours per day perched on your office chair, it is essential to choose a model adapted to your needs and your morphology in order to best avoid the evils associated with poor posture. However, there is such a diversity of different articles that it can sometimes be difficult to make an informed choice.

In order to enlighten you, we have gathered the essential information to know before any purchase.

First of all, you will need to check the adjustability of the envisaged model:

  • Height adjustment : it is necessary in order to adjust the seat height to that of your desk as well as the length of your legs. Most often, this adjustment is made using a joystick actuating a gas or hydraulic cylinder, which allows you to adapt everything smoothly, fluidly. Note that for an ideal position, your knees, hips and elbows should be positioned at right angles to the rest of your body.
  • The inclination of the backrest and the seat : if the simple tilting consists of a front-back tilting of the backrest determined by the weight you exercise on it and then be locked in the position that suits you best, the double adjustment allows, as its name suggests, to adjust the backrest and the seat independently. In the synchronous system , there is a simultaneous tilting of the seat towards the front and the backrest towards the rear, so that the body remains “connected” to the chair all along. On other models, the backrest constantly follows the movement of the back for optimal support.
  • Armrest adjustment : the presence of armrests is often beneficial in that it allows you to rest your arms and shoulders during the day, and then limits muscle tension in these places. If they are also adjustable, they will perfectly adapt to your body type. Some, called “3D”, are even adjustable in height, depth and on a radial axis. The rarer 4Ds are moreover adjustable over the width!

Then, it is important to take into consideration certain elements likely to influence your daily comfort:

  • Maneuverability : for optimal comfort throughout the day, it is essential to have easy access to the adjustment mechanisms of your seat. If the controls are in the wrong place or difficult to maneuver, there is a good chance that you will quickly give up adjusting your chair to suit your needs at the moment, which can be uncomfortable or even dangerous for your health over the long term. term.
  • Size : if it is obvious to think about inquiring about the maximum weight supported by the model of your choice, it can also be interesting to dwell on the width of the seat or the height of the backrest.
  • The materials : if the solidity and quality of the materials are obviously essential, the coating is just as important, well beyond the aesthetic aspect. The fabric is often softer, but tends to stain more quickly. Leather, easy to maintain, is generally considered very comfortable. It is nevertheless more expensive, and is not recommended in case of hot weather. The mesh will allow optimal ventilation, but sometimes limits comfort.

It is with these key elements in mind that we conducted long hours of online research on various sites and blogs specializing in furniture, this in the French and English speaking worlds.

After preselecting around thirty popular models, we consulted the many consumer reviews to determine which ones are best suited to the greatest number of you.

Thus, we can present to you our selection of the 4 best office chairs currently available on the European market.

The best cheap office chairs

If it is possible to find many models offered at a very democratic price, they will rarely be the most ergonomic and equipped chairs on the market.

We still managed to find two models offering a minimum of adjustability and reasonable comfort. They are particularly suitable for short-term use.

Amazon Basics : the best cheap

This first model comes from the Basics collection from Amazon, and is therefore not surprisingly extremely simple, which does not prevent it from attracting many consumers.

It is a low-back wheelchair, designed without armrests. It is very easy to use, and is very practical thanks to its 360 ° pivoting. Thus, you have easy access to all the storage arranged around you.

The seat and backrest are well padded, and obviously provide significant comfort. If the brand ensures physical well-being throughout the day, the chair is not the most ergonomic model on the market. Listen and therefore respect your body well!

A handle allows you to adjust the tilt of the seat, and the height of the seat is also adjustable. FYI, it varies from 87.9 to 96 cm. The maximum weight supported by the structure is 110 kg.

The chair has five nylon caster feet, which slide very smoothly. They are intended for use on carpet or carpet, and have already surprised some users by their speed and their lack of stability on smooth ground. So be careful!

The design of the chair is classic, and the breathable fabric covering gives it a certain elegance. That said, the materials are a little too rough for the taste of some.

Users find the chair robust and comfortable while being very simple, and say they are satisfied with its value for money. In addition, the structure is very easy to assemble upon receipt of the package.

In the end, it is a very basic model all the same with a few adjustments in order to adapt a minimum to your needs. The chair is comfortable thanks to its padding, and is also robust. We particularly recommend it for short-term use, whether for homework, ordering papers and invoices, or working from home.

hJh Office Ernesto : the inexpensive alternative

Leader in online sales in the office seating sector, this German company offers in its catalog hundreds of models of all shapes and at all prices. Do not be surprised to find this brand several times in our comparison!

The Ernesto model is fairly basic, but still has a certain flexibility. It has a tilting mechanism as well as a suspension that adapts perfectly to the weight of the user, while supporting a load of 90 kg maximum.

The seat height is also adjustable thanks to a Toplift system. Its width and padding make it very comfortable, although some people consider the latter to be a bit insufficient. In addition, this model this time has padded armrests. They are however not adjustable.

If the brand promises to be well installed, it also signals that it is a model perfectly suited for working at home, and that its use should ideally not exceed 4 hours per day approximately.

The chair is equipped with five aluminum legs fitted with double castors with a self-braking system for optimum safety. Thus, they will be mobile when you are seated there, and will be blocked automatically as soon as the seat is empty.

While this system makes it easy to keep the chair in place, some people find it constraining that they cannot move it as they please. So it all depends on how you plan to use it. The wheels are, by the way, compatible with carpet or carpet, but not with hard surfaces.

Users approve of the design of the model, which presents a fairly retro and elegant look. The backrest and seat in imitation leather are embellished by an overstitching which gives a quilted effect to the chair. It is also available in white , burgundy or brown .

Everything is very easy to assemble, and users point out the good value for money offered by the brand: although the quality of the Ernesto is fairly average, it remains quite acceptable and satisfactory in view of the price offered.

Finally, it is a model that will seduce above all with its original design, and which convinced us by the presence of some basic but essential adjustments as well as by the addition of armrests. It will undoubtedly suit you if you are looking for a comfortable chair for more punctual use.

The best mid-range office chairs

In this price category, the models become much more ergonomic and adjustable.

The chair we have selected is suitable for professional use, and has all the settings you could dream of for optimal comfort.

hJh ERGO LINE II  : the best mid-range

Do not be fooled by its simple looks: this office chair offers much higher quality than previous models.

First of all, we are dealing with a professional quality model, which is therefore perfectly suited for prolonged use. It is ideal for accompanying you during your long working days, as long as you weigh no more than 120 kg.

Indeed, a point of honor was put in order to create a folder offering good lumbar support. The padded seat is comfortable and wide, for effective comfort and support. Dynamic, it offers excellent pelvic support. In addition, it is adjustable in height as well as in depth for an optimal adjustment.

The backrest is adjustable in height and follows the shape of your back, in order to provide secure lumbar support. The entire seat is adjustable via a synchronous mechanism, which follows your movements perfectly.

This time, the armrests are also adjustable in height on no less than five levels. These are 3D armrests.

However, the casters are only suitable for carpeting but have a self-locking brake which allows the seat to be locked when nobody is using it.

It is therefore mainly the adjustability of this chair that appeals to us, since it can adapt to everyone’s needs and desires. It ensures optimal comfort, which is of course essential for a pleasant and efficient working day.

The best high-end office chairs

For a much larger budget, the material quality must be there, and the manufacturers certainly emphasize ergonomics and comfort.

The model in this section won us over with its ultra-equipped and adjustable design.

hJh Office Ergohuman : the best high-end

It is once again with a model from hJh Office that this section opens, a model that appeals to users with its comfort and flexibility.

This article differs first of all from the previous ones by its materials. If the seat is made from fabric, which is not unusual, the backrest is this time made of mesh, which gives it the advantage of being breathable. This is particularly pleasant if you live in an area where the heat has uncomfortable tendencies.

If desired, the model is also made in leather / mesh version, or only in leather. If you lose the advantage of ventilation with the latter, you still gain in elegance and comfort.

Like the Zenit Comfort, the seat of the Ergohuman is adjustable in height as well as in depth, and the height of the backrest is adjustable in four positions. The chair is equipped with a synchronous system which is lockable, in order to ensure the most comfortable position possible. The whole is of course ergonomic, and offers a flexible and adapted lumbar support.

The 2D armrests with Soft Pad support surface are adjustable in height, and can be adjusted vertically as well as horizontally. The big plus of the Ergohuman is the presence of a headrest, whose height and inclination you can adjust.

Finally, the brakeless casters are compatible with hard and smooth surfaces as well as with carpets and rugs.

Its use goes hand in hand with a hectic professional life, since it is quite possible to work there for around 8 hours a day. On the other hand, this model is not specially recommended for people measuring more than 185 cm.

Here is an interesting chair for its comfort and adjustability. The materials are ideal for pleasant ventilation, and the various adjustments allow the seat to be personalized as well as possible. The presence of a headrest is a little extra very appreciable.

Honorable mentions

Ikea Marcus : its fine mesh backrest is ideal for letting air circulate and working cool. Its height and tilt are adjustable, and it has a rocking mechanism. It thus provides good lumbar support. The wheels are provided with a self-locking mechanism, for optimum safety. The material quality also seems to be there, which certainly justifies its relatively high price compared to its limited modularity.

In conclusion, which office chair to choose?

In the end, the Ergohuman chair by hJh Office is suitable for professional use and offers excellent adaptability. All its accessories, including a headrest, are adjustable and ergonomic. Its manufacture of breathable fabrics also provides additional comfort.

For a low price, we direct you to the chair from Amazon Basics , ideal for a rather punctual use. If the possibility of adjustments is less, this model is very comfortable and robust while remaining simple.

Finally, we offer you the Ergo Line II model from hJh Office . Its simple but effective design hides a beautiful modularity, since all its accessories are adjustable. Ergonomic, this chair with good lumbar support is fully usable throughout the working day. However, it is unfortunately only suitable for carpet.

Best Connected Light Bulbs

April 2, 2020 by prolonews Leave a Comment

After several hours of research and careful analysis of some twenty currently popular models, we have determined which are the best 4 connected bulbs available on the market. We have a preference for the Yeelight , which already offers many features for its affordable price. Among other things, it offers a variation of 16 million colors for personalized atmospheres, in addition to very practical adjustments via various intelligent assistants.

Best Connected Light Bulbs

Why trust us

The Selectos editorial team spends thousands of hours researching, analyzing and comparing products in order to find those that offer the best value for money.

None of our articles are sponsored. We sometimes receive a commission when you buy a product through our links, which allows us to finance our work while remaining completely impartial.

How did we choose?

Connected bulbs have flooded the market in recent years, riding the wave of smart home equipment. It is now possible to control the lighting of your home remotely, without moving (or almost) the little finger.

Faced with this immensity of choice, it is often very difficult to find your way around and to opt for the connected bulb adapted to your needs and your budget.

This is why it is useful to learn about the various existing features and characteristics before getting started:

  • Light intensity : the connected bulbs are low-consumption LED bulbs. Most therefore consume around 10 Watts at full power. The luminous fluxes proposed often approach 800 lumens, which is not very much. Finally, brands rarely present information concerning the angles of diffusion of their bulbs, which is a shame.
  • The temperature : the lighting will also vary depending on the temperature of the white light, which you can adjust on most models. For example, a temperature of 2500K will guarantee you a cozy and intimate atmosphere while from 5000K, the brightness will be closer to that of the day.
  • Colors : functionality formerly reserved for higher-end models, it is found today on more and more products, in a much wider price range. Colors are ideal for creating special atmospheres in your rooms, and are often available in very many tones. Most bulbs also allow white light to be adjusted so that it emits warm or cool tones.
  • The base : it is of course necessary to adapt the bulb to your lamp. Note that the most common caps are those with screws, E14 and E27. Bayonet caps are older systems, recognizable by their letter B. Finally, the G and GU caps offer pin systems.
  • Connection : if the connection via Bluetooth is the easiest to set up, it is also the most limited since you must be close to the object you want to control. On the contrary, if Wi-Fi is generally more expensive and more complex during installation, it is the only one that allows you to control your lighting outside your home. Some bulbs also require the installation of a bridge connecting them to a smartphone or tablet. In the case of Philips, for example, this makes it possible to manage around fifty lamps via a simple system.
  • Applications and compatibility with platforms : the bulbs can be managed via the applications developed by the brands. For even more ease of use, it can be interesting to find out about the compatibility of bulbs with various virtual assistants. Many of them are, for example, voice-controlled via Alexa from Amazon, the Google Assistant or Apple’s HomeKit. The IFTTT application also makes it possible to optimize “conversations” between all of your connected objects, and to determine personalized commands that meet your specific needs.

After preselecting around twenty currently popular models, we therefore carefully analyzed the articles selected according to these characteristics, and then relied on user feedback as to their effectiveness.

It is following this precise research that we are able to present our selection of the 4 best connected bulbs of the moment.

The best cheap connected bulbs

Although they generally have less power and few functions, there are more and more efficient connected bulbs offered at an affordable price.

We have also managed to include a model that stands out for its many adjustment possibilities, its ease of use and above all its color mode.

Yeelight : the best cheap

If it already requires a certain investment, this bulb has many interesting features while offering an attractive price for this kind of product.

In fact, unlike most of the models in this budget range, it offers a varied choice of colors (16 million tones) rather than a simple white light, which is a real plus for creating special atmospheres in your rooms.

In addition, you can opt for warm or cool tones, and adapt the intensity of the brightness to your desires and activities. The temperature varies from 1700 to 6500K, which allows a creation of atmosphere either subdued, or more natural and bright.

It is also equipped with various modes and settings, such as voice control, synchronization with the music listened to, or even dimming for waking and falling asleep smoothly. You can also adjust the bulbs individually or in groups.

It is compatible with intelligent systems from Google, Apple or SmartThings, and is easy to configure since it does not require a bridge to operate. On the other hand, it must be admitted that the application is perfectible, and sometimes encounters some problems.

Its intensity of 800 lumens is characteristic of entry-level products, and users emphasize the quality of light and colors offered by the bulb. It is fitted with an E27 base.

Finally, it is a model offering a very interesting quality / price ratio, since it offers various practical and effective features for a very attractive price. It is a wise choice if you want to try the experience of connected bulbs.

The best mid-range connected bulbs

For a higher price, the features offered are generally more complete, as is the choice of colors and intensities.

We have selected a first model offering an interesting light power going hand in hand with a wide palette of colors and modes, while the second is mainly distinguished by its circadian cycle function, which many appreciate.

LIFX : the best mid-range

Initially offered at a much higher price, the LIFX has everything of a high-end connected bulb.

The first point that sets it apart is undoubtedly its intensity of 1100 lumens, which makes it the most powerful model of our selection. It therefore guarantees excellent lighting, which users appreciate (it is, after all, the main function of a bulb!). The brand specifies that it offers a luminous surface at an angle of 135 °.

It obviously offers white light, which is available in no less than a thousand different tones (ranging from the warmest to the coldest), as well as a colored function offering 16,000 shades. The temperature varies from 2500K to 9000K, which can therefore perfectly imitate natural daylight.

Users also emphasize the quality of the tone nuances, as well as the depth of the colors. If you are specifically looking for a bulb with a nice color palette, this is an ideal option.

The basic functionalities are obviously always present: remote control, intensity adjustment, different programs, modes and schedules … Everything has been designed to allow you to manage and personalize the bulb with ease.

It works over Wi-Fi, and is very intuitively manageable via an application, while being compatible with many voice devices and intelligent interfaces: Alexa, Google Assistant, SmartThings and much more.

It does not require a bridge, but its installation may seem a bit restrictive. Fortunately, its use afterwards is very simple! Some consumers report, however, that the application sometimes lacks responsiveness, and that pairing can be difficult depending on the devices used.

Finally, it is again a standard E27 base, and the bulb consumes only between 0.5 and 11 Watts depending on its use, which is quite reasonable.

In the end, here is a practical model to use and versatile thanks to its compatibility with various virtual assistants. The bulb will please you particularly if you are fond of rich lights and deep colors, able to create an interior to your taste!

TP-LINK LB130 : the mid-range alternative

If the majority of its characteristics remain basic, this bulb stands out above all from its competitors by its circadian mode.

The circadian rhythm consists in adjusting the light intensity and its temperature in order to best imitate natural light. Thus, among other things, you can prepare your body to fall asleep and wake up gently by adjusting the lighting according to the external brightness.

On the other hand, users do not find its general luminous capacity exceptional. Unlike the previous model, it only has an intensity of 800 lumens (which is still reasonable). It has a standard E27 base.

The bulb is adjustable on a white light or on a color mode, whose intensity is adjustable from 2500K to 9000K, allowing to effectively reproduce daylight. You can set it to various mood modes, from dinner with friends to reading breaks and more festive tones.

All the basic functions usually found in connected bulbs are also present: you can therefore define programs, adjust the intensity or even follow your consumption with ease. The various bulbs in the house are also individually adjustable, which is very practical.

Connected directly to Wi-Fi without going through a bridge, it is easily controlled remotely thanks to the Kasa application. In addition, it is compatible with Android, Google Home and Alexa systems.

Too bad, suddenly, users seem to notice connection problems after a few months of use, causing quite restrictive configuration losses.

In the end, this model has all the characteristics necessary for a customizable and easily manageable light, while offering a circadian mode that appeals to many consumers. Its general quality is however a little lower than that of our first choice.

The best high-end connected bulbs

For larger budgets or more experienced users, only one model caught our attention.

The investment is substantial, but its functionality and quality will undoubtedly appeal to the most connected of you.

Philips White & Color Ambiance : the best high-end

The reputation of the Dutch brand in the world of lighting and fixtures is well established: it is therefore not surprising to find one of its products in this section of our comparison.

We opted for its most popular bulb for users, which not only offers white light in warm or cool tones, but also a wide range of more than 16 million very rich colors.

The quality of the light is here to emphasize, although its intensity is only 800 lumens, as for most connected bulbs in all price ranges. Considering the investment, we would have appreciated a little more power. However, it only consumes a maximum of 8.5 Watts.

The bulb is compatible with many applications and smart systems, such as Alexa, Siri or Google Assistant.

It offers many features, such as voice control, wake-up light, a timer function, music synchronization or even a smoke detector mode. It is highly customizable, and will undoubtedly adapt to your needs and your interior.

Unlike previous models, Philips bulbs work via a gateway or Hub, which makes their installation a little complicated. But once everything is in place, the use is very simple. This gateway makes it possible, among other things, to create a connected network of several tens of lamps.

Philips also offers a starter kit including three bulbs, the bridge, as well as a Smart Button remote control.

It is therefore a colorful model, which charms by its quality and its many features. If its price seems prohibitive and its many superfluous options, you can always go to the simplest Philips HUE White or its Ambiance version , which offer white light, are more basic and above all accessible.

NB: the wide range of connected luminaires offered by Philips even includes a connected lamp !

Honorable mentions

Ikea TRÅDFRI : the Swedish giant is not outdone in terms of technology: here it offers a practical starter kit consisting of an E27 bulb with a power of 1000 lumens and a remote control. So you can turn on, off and change the intensity and color of the light with ease. You can also manage your bulbs individually or in groups. To do this, you will need the appropriate gateway as well as the Ikea Home Smart application.

Awox Smartlight : this bulb with a standard power of 800 lumens works this time via Bluetooth. Its installation and connection are therefore very simple via the SmartControl application, and do not require a gateway. You can opt for a white or colored light, knowing that the colors lack a little intensity to the taste of some. The bulb has various settings such as music synchronization, alarm clock or light notification in case of call or sms.

In conclusion, which connected bulb to choose?

In the end, we have a preference for the Yeelight , which has convinced us with its various features, including its colored light mode. Easy to use, it is compatible with many virtual assistants, and benefits from a good brightness. All for a small price.

The LIFX seduces by its light intensity as well as the quality of its colors. Simple to install and configure, it offers many practical features. However, its price is still less affordable.

The Philips White & Color Ambiance stands out for its quality and reliability, and offers a very pleasant brightness. You can configure it via the application so that it best manages a multitude of actions, from musical synchronization to the brightness of “gaming”, via the smoke detector option. Its price is however really high.

Best Artificial Tree

April 1, 2020 by prolonews Leave a Comment

After many hours of research and in-depth examination of a dozen models of artificial trees, we have determined that the Triumph Tree 788041 is the best quality / price ratio of the moment thanks, among other things, to its very natural effect and its solid constitution. Stabilized by a robust metal base, it is hardly flammable and has a very complete composition.

Best Artificial Tree

Why trust us ?

The Selectos editorial team spends thousands of hours researching, analyzing and comparing products in order to find those that offer the best value for money.

None of our articles are sponsored. We sometimes receive a commission when you buy a product through our links, which allows us to finance our work while remaining completely impartial.

How did we choose?

The Christmas tree, like the Christmas decorations , is an essential element during the Christmas and New Year celebrations. Recently, artificial models are gaining more and more followers because of their many advantages.

Not only do these trees save money in the long run, but they are also more practical since they require no maintenance. In addition, their use over several years is beneficial for the environment.

In view of the many models available on the market, it is not easy to choose the ideal tree. This is why, in order to advise you as well as possible, we have based ourselves on a few criteria which seem essential to us:

  • Brand reliability : there are many unreliable brands on the market these days. Therefore, it seems essential to us to favor already recognized brands in order to be certain of the quality of manufacture as well as that of the after-sales service, if necessary.
  • Design : it is important to choose your tree according to the decorations you want to bring it. So, either you opt for the traditional green model, or you choose a flocked or luminous tree. Note that as part of this selection, we essentially turned to traditional and realistic models, so that these can adapt to the largest number of interiors.
  • Dimensions : it is best to determine the location and space you have before making your purchase. To do this, you need to take into account the ceiling height but also the floor area and the space occupied by the branches.
  • Materials : there are all kinds, such as wood, metal, polyethylene or PVC. Some of these materials influence lightness, others on stability and / or realism.
  • Ease of assembly : multiple options are now available to facilitate assembly and make it quick. Note that if it can be tedious to have to unfold each branch individually, this allows to properly work the silhouette and the placement of decorations.

Thanks to these criteria, we were able to identify ten interesting trees, even if models from recognized brands are quite rare on the online market. It was only after a more in-depth analysis of each of them that we managed to identify what we consider to be the 4 best artificial trees currently available.

Our Choice: Triumph Tree 788041

This spruce-style tree measures over 1.80m and has good robustness. It is stabilized by a metal leg and is hardly flammable. The color codes on the branches allow installation and disassembly fairly quickly. It is the most complete model of this comparison.

Triumph Tree is a Dutch brand specializing in artificial Christmas trees for over 25 years.

From the Forest Frosted Pine series, this model benefits from a fairly classic design: it is the perfect clone of an authentic spruce . This beautiful tree, 1.80 m high and 1.30 m wide, has 942 branches.

Made of PVC, it stands out thanks to its mixture of hard and flexible needles. This detail gives it a dense and, above all, very natural look.

Its metal base is very stable and remains fairly discreet insofar as the branches fall low enough. It is also useful to note that this fir is hardly flammable, since it has fireproof branches.

Despite its size, it remains easy to assemble. Indeed, the manufacturer has implemented a very practical color code which is directly affixed to the branches. You just have to associate the different colors together.

In general, users are more than satisfied with this Triumph Tree. They appreciate the realistic side, because it looks like two drops of water like a freshly cut spruce. However, we have a reservation regarding its packaging, the branches of the tree being directly delivered in the box, without specific protection for transport.

The best cheap artificial tree: Deuba 470

This PVC tree is very easy to store despite its large size of 1.80m. It has a symmetrical construction and comes with a support. If it has a good hold, several users denounce yet a low density of branches on the bottom of the tree, which deprives it of the realistic effect so coveted.

The German company Deuba, located in Merzig, has been present on the market since 2002 and quickly established itself as a leader in online sales.

The real strength of the Deuba 470 is above all its investment. It is quite rare to find a tree of this quality at such an affordable price.

It has a classic design while standing out with its artificial snow and encrusted pine cones. It therefore has a practical side, allowing you to make some savings in terms of decoration, without losing the magical effect.

Thanks to its symmetrical design and its 705 branches, it offers a very natural look, but only on the top of the tree. For good reason, several users deplore a low density of branches at the bottom. This disadvantage, combined with the fact that the strands start far enough from the trunk, gives it a bare appearance at the base and, therefore, less realistic.

This can also have repercussions on the assembly. If it remains easy thanks to the clip fixing system, it can nevertheless be tedious. In fact, you are wasting time trying to spread the branches correctly to hide this defect.

It will also be necessary to be careful because the support can also be fragile. On the other hand, during storage, you will have no trouble storing it, even if it is very bulky.

In sum, it is fair to say that despite the few flaws inherent in its price range, this tree remains the best option for those with a limited budget.

The best mid-range artificial tree: FairyTrees Natural Spruce

180 cm high and 125 cm wide, this model is an elegant choice in your interior, with an effectively natural finish.

It is designed by a German brand specializing in the creation of artificial trees and proud of its handcrafted trees in one of their European factories. They also offer very pretty decorations that include traditional Christmas balls as well as compositions made with artificial branches.

If its installation does not present any difficulty, it is however necessary to show softness. It is indeed a fairly light PVC model (8 kg), which can quickly lose a few needles if its handling is not done meticulously when folding and unfolding the branches.

It must be said that there are few users who show inconvenience since these same needles are particularly well supplied. So even if some of them come off, the tree remains stoically natural.

For its storage, it is also recommended to take some precautions. The manufacturer recommends keeping it in a special bag or carton and in a room where the ambient temperature cannot exceed 25 ° C (77 ° F), such as in a basement or garage.

If this may seem restrictive, we must admit that the rendering is particularly worth it. And to make it even more magical, you will receive a manual with the purchase including a detailed description of how to best position your decoration, with a few photos to support it.

Thanks to all this and despite the slight loss of thorns, users are very satisfied with this Christmas tree and many people recommend it.

A mid-range alternative: Yorbay

Thanks to its integrated false snow and its real pine cones, this 180 cm model immerses you directly in the atmosphere of a snowy Canadian forest.

It is offered by Yorbay, a German brand located in Hamburg that offers a wide selection of home and garden supplies.

If it differs from the competition, it is mainly thanks to its realistic design on the one hand and (above all) to its iron base allowing it to support a load up to 80 kg on the other.

Given that it has more than 900 leaves, fanatics of sumptuous decorations should be seduced by it, especially since real pine cones and artificial snow give it a certain charm, even if the latter tends to crumble after several uses. .

We particularly appreciate its “safe” side since the needles, made of fireproof materials, have the advantage of not pricking. It is therefore very pleasant to decorate it as a family, without fear for small children’s hands.

It must be said that its assembly is extremely simple, since it suffices to fit the three distinct parts which compose it, then to unfold and orient the multiple branches according to your convenience. If you really need it, also know that the manufacturer has developed an installation video to help you with this task.

Despite the tendency of fake snow to crumble, we are dealing with a model which is distinguished by its generous rendering, its ease of assembly and its robustness. Handled with care, it should brighten up your Christmas for many years.

Honorable mentions

Best Home Alarm

April 1, 2020 by prolonews Leave a Comment

We conducted long hours of research and compared fifteen popular models to determine which are the best home alarms currently available on the European market. Among these, the Tiiwee offers a particularly convincing value for money. Basic and unconnected, it has above all a deterrent action. Easy to install and use, it has a reasonable volume, and can be equipped with numerous sensors and detectors. It can also act as a chime.

How did we choose?

Security is one of the priorities of many owners, who are investing more and more in protection systems, which perform reassuring, dissuasive or protective functions in the event of frequent burglaries.

But choosing a home alarm is not easy, as there are many models on the market. This choice depends mainly on your home, the perimeter you want to cover and the criteria that are specific to your lifestyle.

Note that there are mainly three types of home alarms, which are mostly wireless these days:

  • Local alarm : this is the traditional unconnected alarm, which triggers a siren to prevent an intrusion from taking place. Above all, it has a dissuasive power, since it cannot make direct contact with you or your neighbors. It should ideally be placed in a discreet location, so that burglars cannot find and deactivate it (although it is often necessary to enter a specific stop code). Basic, it is often inexpensive.
  • The self-monitoring connected alarm : connected to a smartphone, it keeps you informed of the situation in real time, and therefore warns you of an intrusion by sending you a notification. The efficiency of the connected models obviously depends on the quality of your internet connection. There are also models using the mobile network, which is normally more reliable: the alarm center must be equipped with a SIM card, and will send you an SMS in the event of a problem. The advantage of this type of system is that it allows you to react immediately.
  • The alarm connected to a remote monitoring center : in addition to keeping you informed in real time of the situation of your home, it is associated with a remote monitoring system provided by a company. Thus, a professional, able to quickly manage a burglary situation, is immediately notified when the alarm goes off and can take control of the situation. This monitoring mode is of course much more expensive, since it requires a subscription, often monthly, from a remote monitoring service.

Knowing this, here are some characteristics to take into account before any purchase:

  • The detection range : the larger the area to be covered, the more the system must be complete and the higher the prices. An apartment can often be satisfied with a cheaper security system while a villa will probably have to move towards a medium or high-end model, more equipped. Also pay attention to the configuration and accesses that allow you to enter your home, that is to say the number of rooms to be covered as well as the number of doors and windows.
  • The volume : the interior alarm siren aims above all to destabilize and scare away burglars. The more powerful it is, the more likely it is to fulfill its purpose. Generally, the alarm volume is around 110 dB. You can also extend your security system with an external alarm, which is then used to alert the neighborhood of an intrusion into your home, and thus deter thieves.
  • Accessories : the vast majority of alarms are fitted with sensors to be placed on your doors and windows, which detect their opening. Often, they also carry motion detectors (if you can, we advise you to choose a system that does not take your pets into account). For the management of local alarms, there are often remote controls or badges . Some models also act as smoke or gas detectors.

Here we have privileged the “simple” alarms, connected or not, which assume a dissuasive role, rather than the surveillance systems, often equipped with a camera and requiring a monthly subscription to ensure remote monitoring. If you are interested in more complete systems, we invite you to consult our reviews dedicated to indoor and outdoor surveillance cameras .

We have browsed many English and French speaking reference websites and blogs, and have identified around fifteen currently popular models that meet our selection criteria. In order to decide between them, we then confronted them with numerous user feedback, which helped us to assess their reliability and ease of use.

This is how we are able to present you the 4 best home alarms currently available on the European market.

Our Choice: Tiiwee

Particularly suitable for protecting small houses, apartments or even caravans, this local alarm has strong deterrent power thanks to its 120 dB siren. It is sold as a kit, which can of course be completed, comprising two door / window sensors and a remote control. Very easy to install and take in hand, it can also act as a chime in shops and stores.

The main advantage of the Tiiwee A1 lies in its very simple use, and its installation facilitated by a clear and explicit manual. All settings are already made and just press a button to activate the alarm, then another to deactivate it.

There are two other buttons to choose the tone and to activate a manual siren. The buttons on the remote control, on the other hand, are very sensitive, and users would have appreciated that it was equipped with a lock. The most recent X3 version of the alarm works via PIN code, and offers two volume levels.

Equipped with two door or window sensors and a remote control, the alarm can be personalized with many accessories to further increase your security. Among these, there are other detection tools such as a greater number of door and window sensors (you can have up to 40) which offer a better sound in the event of an alert, as well as motion detectors.

Some believe that the alarm lacks a little power in terms of sound volume, although it benefits on paper with a power of 120 dB, above average. It should therefore be enough to protect a small house or apartment. Tenants are also particularly satisfied with the fact that it is easily removable.

In the end, if you are looking for a small, effective alarm kit used to deter thieves or simply to protect a small home, the Tiiwee will be perfect for you. It is not the most sophisticated, but is expandable thanks to its many addable accessories.

The best mid-range house alarm: Eray

This connected alarm with a power of 110 dB is armed with two motion detectors, nine opening detectors, two remote controls and two badges, all of which can of course be extended according to your needs. It works by double transmission, via Wi-Fi or GSM network, and can also be configured via the touch panel. Times and times are adjustable according to your needs, and the modern design is appreciable.

The centralizing panel has a Wi-Fi or 3G connection. The radio identification system (RFID) makes it possible to recover data, which can be viewed on your smartphone via the application. It can constantly update the panel and make any adjustments. You can also provide a SIM card for use via GSM.

Thus, the alarm can be deactivated from anywhere, either via the alarm panel controlled by the remote control, or via the mobile application, or by SMS. At the slightest alert, you are notified on your smartphone. The alarm can be configured to warn several people.

Various settings are possible: you can arm and disarm the alarm on schedule, or adjust the delay according to your needs. The sound level of 110 dB, without being ultra-powerful, is completely acceptable. It is able to cover a large area, and is therefore helped by the many sensors provided.

On the other hand, the configuration remains, according to users, quite arduous: it requires many codes, and is not facilitated by the user manual, very unclear and apparently poorly translated into French. It also sometimes seems to suffer from connection losses (hence the interest of the GSM system).

We also cast a slight doubt on the reliability of the brand and its after-sales service, since we have not managed to find a site or even a page of official social networks other than Amazon. It does not seem to be particularly specialized in alarms or security systems (it sells, among other things, children’s toys, bags, or even storage kits or boxes).

That being said, their alarm remains a product highly appreciated by users, and is more often validated by the reference sites that we have consulted. It will certainly suit you if you are looking for a connected device at a reasonable price.

The best high-end home alarm: Somfy Home

Somfy Home is distinguished by its ability to trigger before the break-in takes place, thanks to its IntelliTAG technology which detects suspicious vibrations. Connected and manageable via a simple application, it is compatible with many intelligent assistants, and its access can be shared with your loved ones or neighbors. It has three sensors and a motion detector in addition to the indoor siren, as well as two badges.

In addition to the indoor siren with a volume of 110 dB, you can add an outdoor siren with a 112 dB sound signal with flash and speakers, in order to repel the risk of intrusion as much as possible. The motion detector is discreet and efficient, and can be adjusted to ignore your pet.

The sensors are equipped with patented IntelliTAG technology, which perceives intruders before intrusion, for example by detecting vibrations linked to the use of tools intended to force the opening of a door or window. You are therefore immediately informed by notification. Your friends or neighbors can also be connected to the system in case you are on vacation.

Somfy Home is easy to install. The entire procedure is indicated on the Somfy Protect mobile application, available on iOS and Android. Its activation is done via the remote control or the application, an audible indicator warns you when it is running.

Key Fob badges, intended to be attached to your keychain, are equipped with a system detecting your arrival at home and automatically disconnecting the alarm before you enter. Their material quality nevertheless seems to leave something to be desired.

Finally, the downside is that the 110 dB alarm seems very sensitive, and is likely to be triggered for nothing.

In summary, this connected system allows you to instantly follow what is happening in your home thanks, in particular, to a well-supplied pack, which can be supplemented by additional sensors, detectors and sirens, as well as by a camera system. However, these supplements significantly increase the bill, which is not negligible if you have to equip a large property.

A cheap alternative: Kerui G18

This standard kit equipped with two motion detectors, five door and window sensors and two remote controls can be used manually or via GSM. It is possible to link it to several people, and the whole is of course supplementable with additional accessories. It also covers a large area thanks to its detection range of up to 100 meters.

You can simply operate the security system either with a four-button remote control, or via voice message, or with the GSM-related application. The latter, called “G18 Alarm”, is available on iOS and Android.

Two cards can be integrated. The SIM card is used to receive text messages in the event of an alert, while the SD card is used to record the alarm history. The latter is especially useful if you decide to take the infrared IP camera, sold separately.

You can go further by completing your system, which is compatible with no less than 150 sensors and 99 detectors. You can also decide to set the alarm to automatic arming and disarming, or configure them via access code.

However, it is at the installation level that the shoe pinches. Indeed, the manual, only provided in English, makes installation difficult for the majority of users. In addition, the hardware quality of the devices is apparently not the most impressive.

In short, the price / quality ratio of the Kerui G18 seems a little less interesting. It will nevertheless be useful if you are looking for a surveillance system capable of warning you of an intrusion offered at an affordable price.

Honorable mentions

Ectech : this system is equipped with four window and door sensors, two motion detectors, two remote controls and a GSM notification system. It also benefits from a powerful siren (120 dB) as well as an expandable and complete accessory kit. However, its manual in English puts users in difficulty for its installation, and its high sensitivity can cause baseless alerts. In addition, its autonomy is a bit weak.

Smanos K1 : this alarm system with a round and minimalist design includes two sensors for doors and windows, a motion detector, an indoor siren and a wireless control panel. The kit nevertheless seems a bit low for the price, and we therefore recommend it rather for a small home. Other than that, it takes advantage of practical technologies such as compatibility with Wi-Fi cameras or even voice control.

Best Christmas Decorations

April 1, 2020 by prolonews Leave a Comment

After many hours of research among a multitude of Christmas decorations available on the market, 5 of them have particularly stood out. Among these, our favorites are the string lights from Lighting Ever . Sold in number of 4, they offer the best quality / price ratio. As for non-light decorations, the 3 Christmas socks from SueH Design look great on a fireplace.

Best Christmas Decorations

Why trust us ?

The Selectos editorial team spends thousands of hours researching, analyzing and comparing products in order to find those that offer the best value for money.

None of our articles are sponsored. We sometimes receive a commission when you buy a product through our links, which allows us to finance our work while remaining completely impartial.

How did we choose?

Like the tree , Christmas decorations of all kinds invade our interiors in December. If there are a multitude of them on the various e-shops, most of them unfortunately often have big defects or simply turn out to be of poor general quality.

To select decorations that are both magical and reliable, we therefore used the following criteria:

  • Reliability of the brand: This is the characteristic to which we have been most attentive. The Christmas market is indeed saturated with unknown (re) known sub-brands which provide no guarantee on the origin, manufacture, or even the presence of an after-sales service in the event of a problem. We have therefore selected here only products from brands that have been recognized in the field with e-commerce.
  • Ease of assembly / start-up and use : If certain decorations are just waiting to be unpacked and placed in a strategic location, everything related to lighting or the sound environment requires putting in / regular power off. Thus, we favored articles with a remote control or an easy access button.
  • The fixings : concerning the hanging decorations or those, heavier, requiring a fixing anchor, we automatically eliminated the products delivered without any fixing system (it is frustrating to have to mount yourself the cords of a hundred balls Christmas after reception!) and those whose system proved to be fragile in use or poorly adapted to various surfaces.
  • The mode of supply : the projectors and the light and musical decorations need to be supplied. While more and more products are now adorned with less energy-consuming LED bulbs, more and more of them are also powered by batteries, to avoid binding cable arrangements. However, if you prefer to use electrical connections, take care to avoid overvoltages. A generator can then prove to be very useful.

With these few criteria in mind we undertook a long search among the multitude of Christmas items available online. Of course, this selection always has a part of subjectivity but, with the 5 decorations selected below, we guarantee you a successful atmosphere, for unwavering use over several years.

Our Choice: Lighting Ever – LED String Lights

Despite their very attractive price, these small garlands amaze with their quality and endurance. Powered by batteries and with a waterproof cord, they allow many light arrangements.

Lighting Ever is an American company which was born in 2009 and which quickly specialized in LED lighting.

The garlands we have selected consist of a transparent copper cord of 1 meter, along which are arranged 20 LEDs diffusing a white but warm light (2700K-2900K).

The cord then extends over 20 cm to reach the case of 4 batteries (included). Charged to the maximum, they offer you more than a week of use, with continuous ignition.

The cable itself is waterproof (IP65 certification), but this is not the case for the battery compartment. It is therefore possible for you to integrate these garlands into flower arrangements requiring regular watering or to cover them with false snow which you can then rinse off easily. However, care must be taken to leave the box, which the 20 cm length of power cord allows easily

Of course, these garlands do not have fixings per se, but the coppery cord allows them to be well modulated to arrange them in a vase, on a centerpiece or even in a (very small) fir tree.

The fact that they do not heat also contributes to their great maneuverability since you can place them on any surface without being afraid of starting an unexpected fire.

Finally, if we have selected the lot of 4 garlands here, know that the brand also offers packs of 8 or 16 as well as larger garlands (like their 20-meter model – on sector this time), just as qualitative.

The best mid-range Christmas decoration: SueH Design – Christmas socks

For decoration in the purest tradition, nothing like these socks to hang on the fireplace. Made of resistant materials and with good quality finishes, these XXL socks are thick enough to benefit from a beautiful outfit while being flexible enough to be easily rolled up and stored after the holidays.

The Sueh Design brand is part of the SEG Direct group, a manufacturer of high quality automotive accessories. This subsidiary was created to design and supply products for the home and, more specifically, for the kitchen. It is generally renowned for its use of quality materials and its advanced manufacturing techniques.

In general, users seem to feel this performance in the composition of socks that they consider very resistant. With a size of 48 x 25 cm, they can effectively accommodate various gifts and treats, without fear of seeing the seams let go.

Of course, the patterns in the shape of Santa Claus, reindeer and snowman are already more than immersive given the period in which they are used, but it is fair to say that the somewhat vintage design also participates in the festive and timeless Christmas atmosphere.

Equipped with a simple hook, they are easy to hang on a nail but you can just as easily use them to decorate your tree, although their size is then substantial.

Note that they are available in 8 versions, two of which can be lit from batteries. In the latter case, the pack only includes 2 pairs of socks.

The best high-end Christmas decoration: Eecoo – Christmas projector

Equipped with Snowflake Projector Lights technology, this projector is ideal for fully immersing yourself in the magical Christmas atmosphere. With several fixing methods and suitable for both indoor and outdoor use, it is a ready-made solution for spending a “white” Christmas.

Eecoo is one of the subsidiaries of the Doqo company, which specializes in electrical products, consumables and high-tech accessories. Renowned for its 24-hour after-sales service, this branch offers a 2-year warranty on all of its products. It can refund or replace your purchase for approximately 30 days, without you having to provide justification.

Its operation is childish. Thanks to the multifunction remote control with a range of 15 m, you just need to program a fixed or flashing projection, set an operating hour, and initiate an automatic stop after 2, 4 or 6 hours.

If the projection can be done from 3 to 10 m, it is truly optimal at 5 m. It is therefore an excellent option for outdoor projection, especially since it has IP 65 protection, active IP 44 certification at the plug, as well as resistance to negative temperatures up to at -20 ° C. The 5 m connecting cord also greatly facilitates this outdoor use.

You can fix the Eecoo to the wall using screws (supplied with the plugs when purchased) or to the floor using a pick to be inserted into the ground.

If the obligation to fix it may seem restrictive, its 180 ° adjustable head allows you to adjust the projection space as you see fit.

Thus, you benefit from a rendering more than appreciable when you project a semblance of snowfall on the window of the dining room, to enjoy your New Years Eve meal in a particularly festive atmosphere.

Finally, if this projector is obviously a must during the Christmas period, it is also very popular with users on special occasions such as a wedding, the atmosphere created being therefore most romantic.

A cheap alternative: Christmas Concepts – Hanging flakes

If these hanging flakes win the support of users, it is not for nothing. On the one hand, their worked design is perfect for immersing you in a winter atmosphere. On the other hand, their variation in 6 colors allows you to easily combine them with the decoration of your tree or the rest of your interior. Finally, their design in a cotton-like material makes them resistant to any fall.

Christmas Concepts is a company over 60 years old. It specializes in the sale of festive products and, more particularly, in the sale of Christmas items, such as fir trees, decorations and lights.

These flakes have an ideal size of 10 cm. Without being too bulky, too heavy and too bulky in the tree, they perfectly fill the unsightly holes that are sometimes found in less well supplied trees.

In addition, if you hang them on the wall or if you place them on a table, they effectively embellish the space without taking up all the space.

The 6 colors offered are end-of-year classics that include red, green, silver, white, copper and gold. Depending on your choice, a silver or gold cord is provided for easy attachment.

Thus, it is therefore entirely possible to match your new find with the rest of your decoration, the rendering being very different depending on the color chosen. Green, for example, offers a dynamic appearance and copper makes it more elegant.

If the design of the flakes makes them almost unbreakable, several users recommend lacquering them before entrusting them to a child, especially if you do not want to see the glitter crumble on contact.

A mid-range alternative: Airlab – Christmas Gnome

According to Scandinavian folklore, this old gnome with his long beard protects homes and children from misfortune. It is therefore quite natural that it invades our interiors at Christmas. Qualitative and properly weighted to avoid tipping, it is a small decoration companion very appreciated by its buyers.

Created a few years ago, Airlab quickly became known with its gnomes available in three colors (Olaf, Felix and Axel) and entirely handcrafted. For good reason, the artisans assure you that you will not find a gnome like yours anywhere else.

With a height of 48 cm, the latter is ideally placed under a slightly bald fir at the base, or even in the entrance to accommodate guests.

If you want to shorten it slightly, be aware that there is a thread inside her cap. This allows you to bend the cap of your statuette in various directions.

The base of the gnome is weighted with sand, which ensures good stability, but also an automatic return to the vertical, if you accidentally strike it.

Also note that this warm decorative object also turns out to be a magnificent gift to offer. Indeed, each of the three gnomes brings their present, whether it is courage, love or luck. When the box in which they are delivered, it is of the most beautiful effect.

At the moment, no model available on the European market seemed to us to meet the qualities necessary to appear alongside our main selection. We will not fail to offer you interesting alternatives as soon as we know about them.

Best TV Stand

April 1, 2020 by prolonews Leave a Comment

After several hours of research, I finally made my selection of the 6 best TV stands among more than thirty models available at the moment. My favorite is the Comfort Home Innovation , which displays a beautiful contemporary look and which is robust and functional.

Best TV Stand

The best cheap TV stands

Entry-level models suffer mainly from their lack of solidity. The fault is a little light materials, and an approximate assembly. In terms of design, there are many different styles: rustic, contemporary, retro, Scandinavian…

Do not panic: with a little patience, it is quite possible to find nuggets!

IDMarket Effie : the best cheap

IDMarket specializes in furniture at low prices. The brand notably offers a pretty pretty Scandinavian set, of which the TV cabinet Effie is the centerpiece.

Simple and efficient, this light piece is perfect for small budgets.

The TV cabinet Effie displays a classic Scandinavian look: equipped with 2 cupboards and 2 central shelves and endowed with 4 feet in light pine, it makes its small effect without doing too much. We appreciate the white / gray duo, sober without being boring.

This kit furniture has the advantage of being made up of numbered parts, which makes the assembly stage much easier. The TV stand is 1.13 m long, 53.5 cm high and 39.5 cm wide. So we only install the television there (unless you have opted for a small screen!).

The two niches are 52.5 cm wide. They are therefore generous enough to install a decoder and DVD player easily.

We appreciate the cable gland hole built into each floor. The cupboards are certainly a bit narrow, but they still constitute appreciable storage spaces.

The Effie TV stand has excellent stability. It should be noted that unlike too many Scandinavian entry-level pieces, the feet are both well fixed and quite thick. We could fear that it would be cheap: this is not the case.

With reasonable dimensions and a clean look, this model is both functional and very decorative. A very nice surprise, considering its mini price!

The Effie set is also quite nice, even if the coffee table is less successful. If you need to furnish the living room at a low price, you can consider combining the TV unit and the bookcase.

The best mid-range TV furniture

The mid-range models are made of good quality materials. It remains important to be vigilant: the quality of the finishes can leave something to be desired.

Special care will be taken to examine the quality of the hardware. In terms of design, there is something for everyone, from the most classic to the most contemporary.

Songmics LTC01WN : the best of mid-range

Songmics is a furniture brand based in the USA. It offers a fairly complete range of furniture.

On the design side, the collections do not necessarily shine with their originality. But in terms of quality and value for money, there is nothing to complain about. The proof with this sober and functional TV stand at the same time.

The Songmics furniture is as classic in design as in its all-purpose look. We particularly appreciate the niche, which occupies the entire length: perfect for installing DVD players, decoders and / or game consoles.

Small flat on the grommet: there is only one, located in the middle of the niche, which is not necessarily practical.

The two closets benefit from a beautiful space. Note that they are equipped with doors that open forward, and not laterally: an option that will prove very practical in a small space. Especially since its dimensions remain compact: 1m wide by 40 cm high and 40 cm deep.

This TV stand is quite easy to assemble, especially since it comes with a manual in French and all the necessary accessories.

It has pretty finishes. And it is strong enough to claim a good carrying capacity: 20 kg per cupboard and 50 kg for the tray. Not bad for a piece of furniture in this range.

With this TV stand, the Songmics brand offers an excellent basic. Made of quality materials, it has great strength.

Admittedly, it is not distinguished by its originality. This model will slip all the more easily in the living room or in the bedroom, whatever your decor!

Fitueyes : high tech furniture

Fitueyes is a very young American brand, since it was born in 2016. It designs and manufactures furniture for the home as well as for the office.

The brand also regularly allows a clever mix of genres, for example with this TV stand with swivel support.

The ultra-minimalist and very contemporary design of this TV stand will not appeal to everyone. Whether you like it or hate it, it does not leave indifferent.

This model is reminiscent of the mobile towers, mounted on wheels, that the brand offers to companies for their conference room.

With this piece of furniture on a swivel support, Fitueyes gets straight to the point: a place for everything and everything in place. So we install the television, of course, and one or two devices (better to reserve the lowest shelf for speakers, which will better withstand possible shocks).

We also note that the manufacturer has equipped this piece of furniture with a cable cover system that prevents the wires from blurring its sleek silhouette.

Without being very complicated, the assembly can be a bit tedious. Although the manual is in English, it remains very clear and all the necessary accessories are provided. But we quickly reversed two screws: it is therefore necessary to show a little attention. Nothing insurmountable, therefore!

This steel and tempered glass model, extremely robust, has a good load capacity: 50 kg for the television, 15 kg for each of the two shelves and 25 kg for the base.

It can accommodate a 32 to 65 inch screen. Not only does it rotate 18 ° to the left or to the right, but the height is adjustable (3 notches, up to 1.35 m). Even if the amplitude remains limited, it is quite practical.

Admittedly, the TV cabinet Fitueyes is devoid of additional storage and the number of devices is limited. But it will be perfectly indicated in a studio or a micro-living room. It is also perfectly suited for installing a second TV in a bedroom or playroom.

It will be understood: the TV cabinet Fitueyes does not meet all tastes or all profiles. But in some very specific cases – reduced space, TV exclusively reserved for a console etc. – it can be very practical.

And not to spoil anything, it is made in very beautiful materials.

The best high-end TV furniture

The high-end models are designed to last. Made of robust materials and equipped with high quality hardware, these are pieces of furniture that you will keep for many years.

The good idea may be to opt for a modular model like the Devaise 3-in-1 , which you can adapt to your new home if you move or reuse it as classic storage.

Comfort Home Innovation : the best… for lovers of contemporary style!

In the category of robust and functional TV furniture, Comfort offers a model of attractive quality with contemporary design. If the installation can be epic, in the end, this piece of furniture looks great.

The TV Comfort furniture measures 1.50 cm long by 42 cm high and 40 cm deep. We appreciate its generous plan, which can accommodate a large screen or a smaller TV and possibly a few decorative items.

This model has a double central niche, the shelf is illuminated with LEDs, and two side storage. These two closets do not have shelves. It should also be noted that the doors open on the front, from top to bottom.

In terms of design, this model plays on the contrast card: color contrast (a very graphic black and white duo) and texture contrast (matt white and lacquered black). A style that is reminiscent of a famous Swedish brand of furniture in kits…

This kit furniture is quite simple to assemble, even if the placement of certain screws is somewhat epic. Plan a small DIY operation during installation: strangely, the furniture is not equipped with a grommet hole. A real gap, quite difficult to explain!

Once in place, the furniture keeps its promises. It is very beautiful and it offers beautiful spaces, as well for the devices as for your video games or DVD.

We appreciate the quality of the materials and the neat finishes. Be careful, however, with the doors: the lacquered effect is very attractive, but it only takes an unfortunate gesture during transport, unpacking or assembly to make slight scratches.

The LED lighting is probably superfluous but the rendering is pretty. We will still appreciate the good idea: a switch slipped under the furniture, which allows you to turn off or on the bar with the tip of your foot.

This TV stand may not be made for all interiors. But it is a functional and elegant model: if your decor allows it, it would be a shame to deprive you.

Devaise 3-in-1 : the ultra-modular

Devaise offers a range of furniture that gives pride of place to offices and storage. The brand, which sells mainly online, offers good quality functional products, with a modern and refined design. With this modular TV stand, Devaise offers a particularly successful model.

At first glance, this piece of furniture displays a pleasant, clean look and quite versatile since it is made of wood. It is however a modular model.

It consists of 2 parts, each measuring 1.10 cm long by 29 cm deep and 53 cm high. They can be installed horizontally, vertically or at an angle.

The assembly of this piece of furniture is relatively simple, but it is still advisable to be two to work more easily. We note that if the wood is of good quality, it could have been thicker.

The furniture is designed for a load of 30 kg, which is not exceptional. At the same time, it sticks pretty well to its configuration. If you have it in L, it can only accommodate a medium screen. If you have a nice space, the ideal is to arrange it horizontally and fix the TV to the wall.

We regret the absence of a system to hide the cables. You will therefore have to bet on the adhesive tape or on the independent purchase of accessories.

The Devaise TV cabinet is therefore the model of extremes, to optimize space in a small room or to dress an XXL wall section. But it remains quite clever, especially since it can easily be converted into a simple library.

If not perfect, this model is modular as desired!

Ameriwood Home Carson : a functional model with an awkward design

As its name suggests, Ameriwood is an American furniture brand. Its catalog is a little frustrating, because in fact, the products are functional and of very good quality.

On the design side, however, it’s not really that. If this TV cabinet is not especially kitsch, it does not seem less straight out of a catalog of the early 2000s…

This TV stand has standard dimensions: 1.20 m long by 40 cm deep and 52.1 cm high. It has a double niche in the center and two side cupboards, which are fitted with a shelf.

Appliances, remote controls, DVDs or video games: when it comes to storage, there is plenty to do!

The assembly is quite easy, the most tedious being the installation of the doors. We appreciate the quality of the materials and the hardware, as well as the care given to the finishes.

However, you have to be honest: when you look at it, this piece of furniture seems clumsy. The fault, no doubt, to the tubes, which contrasts strangely with the dark wood.

The most annoying thing is that these types of tubes were very trendy … in the late 1990s

It must therefore be said: if the Ameriwood TV cabinet is robust and functional, it displays a borderline has been look. And its slightly domed silhouette on the front doesn’t really help matters.

If you are looking for a solid piece of furniture, no doubt: this model provides. If the aesthetic aspect is important to you, on the other hand, it is better to go your way.

The products of my selection on sale for now

How to choose your TV stand?

Are you looking for furniture that can showcase your brand new TV? This is where you will find all the important points to take into account before you get started.

The budget

You will find entry-level models whose price can vary from 50 to 100 €, depending on their size. Relatively basic, these pieces of furniture generally do not benefit from a very long lifespan.

The fault most often comes from an approximate assembly. For a reliable model, which you can keep for several years, therefore count 100 to 200 € for a basic model. The most decorative models can however reach several hundred euros.

The location

Before investing in a TV cabinet, it is necessary to determine what will be its location. You should be able to watch TV comfortably while preserving your vision.

So you have to find the optimal distance between the sofa and the TV stand. As a guide, we recommend on average: a distance of 1.6 m for a 40 ”(102 cm) television, a distance of 2 m for a 48 ″ (122 cm) television, a distance of 2.2 m for a 50 ″ TV (140 cm)

Don’t forget to take into account the light fixtures and the position of the windows: nothing worse than light reflections on the screen to spoil your TV night!

Your material

Take stock of the equipment you have (or want to install in the short or medium term). DVD player, console, speakers … carefully list all your devices, noting their weight and dimensions.

Don’t forget an important parameter: ventilation! Beware, therefore, of the temptation to stack the devices. Instead, prefer a piece of furniture equipped with enough niches and shelves.

The dimensions

Of course, your furniture must be long enough to accommodate your TV and have sufficient space for your equipment. The most common depth is 40 cm: this allows you to install all types of devices: DVD player, console…

The height of a classic living room furniture rarely exceeds 52 cm. This is perfectly suited for installation in front of a sofa. In the bedroom, you will usually opt for a higher piece of furniture, allowing you to comfortably watch television when you are lying down.

Load

The television remains a fairly fragile device: no question, therefore, that your furniture gives way under the weight and collapses! Manufacturers generally indicate the maximum load of a piece of furniture.

It is also frequent that the information is detailed, to indicate the maximum load of each element, from the upper plan to the shelves of the niche or cupboards. Even if it seems tedious, check the compatibility with the weight of your different devices.

Storage

The traditional TV cabinet accommodates the TV on the upper level and 2 to 4 devices in one or more niches. Most models are flanked by closed side cupboards, in which to store remote controls, video games and DVDs.

You can find hybrid models, which have more substantial elements (display case or library). The choice depends above all on your needs.

In a studio or a small living room, it can be advantageous to bet on this type of modular furniture. In a large space, you can favor a simpler model, possibly matching an independent bookcase and / or a coffee table.

The materials

Melamine wood, steel, tempered glass: a multitude of materials are possible. It is even common for a TV stand to be made of two separate materials.

Entry-level models can be a bit light. But overall, the manufacturers offer good quality materials.

What makes the difference ? The assembly! So don’t neglect the quality of the hardware and hinges!

The options

Like any other piece of furniture, the TV unit can be fitted with different types of doors. If you have room, this is just a detail. In a smaller space, it would be better to bet on sliding doors or opening towards the front.

Casters are common on small models. On a row type furniture, they are more rare. It must be said that these large models must be moved carefully, preferably in pairs, to avoid breakage. These XL models are also thought to be decorative, and the casters are not necessarily very aesthetic.

If you opt for a model whose niche is equipped with a panel at the back, make sure that it has at least one grommet (if not, you will need to bring a cutter to make one yourself!).

The style

In the living room, the TV cabinet is often the central piece of furniture, around which the room is organized. It is therefore important not to miss the aesthetic aspect, otherwise the decoration of the living room will be ruined.

Rustic, contemporary, retro or Scandinavian: you will find pieces with an assertive style. If in doubt, you can bet on wood: dark or light, it is a warm material that harmonizes with any interior.

Variants

The traditional TV cabinet can be replaced by variants. The most common is the column unit, like the Fitueyes .

Very refined, it generally has a cable cover. You will also find sound equipment, equipped with built-in speakers and amplifier.

The soundproof TV furniture implies a higher budget, but they allow to have a high quality sound by optimizing the space and without visible speakers.

The Best Wired Headphones

March 31, 2020 by Alex Leave a Comment

After several hours of research in around thirty models of wired headphones, we have come to the conclusion that the most interesting choice is the Beyerdynamics DT240 Pro. Both sedentary and nomadic, it offers first-rate audio quality without neglecting the manufacturing quality.

Our choice, Best mid-range

Beyerdynamics DT240 Pro

Intended for lovers of audio quality, it is both sedentary and nomadic. It offers good comfort of use while offering a natural and balanced look.

With its clear and balanced sound quality in all areas, it can be used for professional listening as much as for pleasure, even if it is primarily intended for audiophiles. However, it has a perfectible sound insulation and its size can inconvenience the larger ears.

Best cheap

AKG K72

Semi-professional equipment at a low price, that’s what AKG offers you with this model. Its entry-level position does not prevent it from offering very good audio quality.

By combining first-rate comfort and high sound quality for its price, AKG has rightly hit the nail on the head. It can even boast of offering a certain listening pleasure thanks to its sufficiently present bass. The only complaints we can make are related to its irremovable cable and the quality of its mediums.

Best high end

Audio-Technica ATH-M50X

With its very good manufacturing quality and its detailed and balanced sound, it is still one of the best products on the market. It is also very comfortable, which promises long listening sessions.

Despite the arrival of a new version with the MSR7B, this model is still an excellent choice, especially at the price at which it is offered. Whether you are an audiophile or a professional, it offers very high precision, free from distortion. It is certainly not made to be used on the move with its fairly limited passive insulation … But that is not what it is intended for.

Cheap alternative

Shure SRH145

True to the brand’s reputation for audio, it offers extremely high sound quality in a compact and easily transportable format, making it a good companion for your daily journeys.

Despite its on-ear design, these headphones offer neat audio quality combined with good sound insulation. It has beautiful qualities such as a rich and detailed sound, comfort suitable for all sizes and a reliable construction. In the end, its only faults are related to its size and its price range: the bass slightly lack power and the outer coating, of lower quality, is sensitive to scratches.

Mid-range alternative

Sony MDR-7506

Having arrived on the market for many years, this range of headphones is the industry benchmark when it comes to monitoring headphones. It is mainly characterized by its exceptional sound quality.

If you want a balance between price and sound quality, then the MDR-7506 is ideal. It is certainly not the most practical with its long and robust cable but in terms of audio, it is a reference. We find it unfortunate that the brand did not pay more attention to its visual, which is not at the level of its skills.

How did we choose?

The world of headphones is full of possibilities. The main difficulty in choosing the model that best suits us comes from the variety of products available to us. In the context of this article, we have focused on headsets for amateur audiophiles by favoring models designed for sound fidelity.

We therefore sought the best balance between the criteria defined below:

  • The sound quality: in the case of wired headphones, the type of sound sought is oriented towards neutrality in order to guarantee a natural rendering whatever the listening medium. In this sense, the headphones must guarantee the flattest possible frequency response in order to avoid any excessive emphasis on certain elements, unlike general public headsets which have a particular color of sound. This type of headphone is mainly used for monitoring or by audiophiles.
  • Comfort: look at the thickness and the material of the pads. The thicker they are, the longer you can keep the headphones on your ears. Then, the arch must be designed with good material, but also be adjustable, to best match the morphology of your head and thus ensure good support. Some emit a strong pressure on the skull, making the headphones uncomfortable during long periods of listening. Weight is also an important element.
  • Noise isolation: For a good reproduction of the sound scene, audiophiles generally opt for so-called open models, which allow the different sounds to filter more. As a result, insulation is often overlooked, but some helmets try to compensate for this defect. The thickness and size of the pads also influence this factor. If this is important to you, turn to closed models instead.
  • Mobility: if you want to opt for mobile use, the robustness and practicality of your helmet are important. To favor these factors, opt for models favoring more noble materials or, failing that, a higher quality plastic. Some helmets offer swivel earphones as a bonus, making it possible to reduce their size. For wired models, a final factor comes into play: the length of the cable. It is indeed quite difficult to slip more than 2 meters of cable into your pocket.

We started from around thirty models and only retained 10 after analyzing these criteria. Then, we consulted several critical English and French speaking sites, forums, blogs, etc. and we managed to establish a final selection of the 5 best wired headphones of the moment according to different price ranges.

PS: as we have already mentioned, different technologies and specific uses exist. If you are looking for more information about them, do not hesitate to visit our other articles dedicated to gaming headsets , noise reduction headsets , as well as bluetooth headsets. We particularly recommend these for your travels.

Our Choice: Beyerdynamics DT240 Pro

Our choice, Best mid-range

Beyerdynamics DT240 Pro

Intended for lovers of audio quality, it is both sedentary and nomadic. It offers good comfort of use while offering a natural and balanced look.

With its clean and balanced rendering in all areas, it can be used for professional listening as well as for pleasure, even if it is primarily intended for audiophiles. However, it has a perfectible sound insulation and its size can inconvenience the larger ears.

The DT240 Pro is a good example that studio-quality headphones can be practical on a daily basis.

Thus, its audio quality without particular color allows a clean and very well balanced rendering. The different tones are linked without snagging, avoiding any confusion, regardless of the style of music chosen. If you want to focus on listening to “pleasure”, you can easily change the equalization with a program or an app.

It provides good comfort thanks to its studied ergonomics. Its headband and pads are covered with a good quality imitation leather and the set is flexible and light, which gives it a good hold without it tightening too much. However, if you have large ears, you will not be able to take advantage of its “over-ear” format, because the size of the headphones is quite small, transforming it into an “on-ear” model for larger users.

This does not allow good sound insulation when its closed format should, on the contrary, help it. It is therefore not recommended for noisy environments.

However, it has good qualities which make it very practical: it is robust and well-constructed (thanks to the use of metal and aluminum), can fold flat and has a cable short enough to be practical on the move (1.5 m base, up to 3 m with the extension supplied). It is also quite flexible which minimizes the risk of breakage.

The best cheap wired headphones: AKG K72

Best cheap

Who says audio fidelity is expensive? With the K72, AKG proves that even on a low budget, an audiophile can find happiness. Indeed, its real strong point is precisely its quality / price ratio.

It offers a wide, detailed and deep sound rarely seen at this level of range. It has enough bass to be enjoyable for both critical listening and entertainment while maintaining excellent neutrality. Complex sounds are well mastered thanks to good management of the different elements. The only small downside comes from the mediums which may seem a little less coherent by their strangled side but, for this price … we can forgive him.

Comfort is not neglected. Its “over-ear” design is suitable for most large ears. It is equipped with very good quality imitation leather pads, a double hoop and a hammock to combine rigidity and comfort of use which guarantees you that you can wear it all day without problem.

Unfortunately, where the costs have been reduced, it is at the level of the insulation which is simply not at the level of the rest of the helmet and this, even if it is a closed model.

You should also know that it is intended more for sedentary use. Thus, it is adorned with a thick cable of 3 m, inconvenient when traveling. It is also not removable which makes it difficult to replace in the event of a problem.

In the end, if you are an audiophile who takes pleasure in listening to his favorite tracks installed on his sofa, it is perfect. Especially if you don’t want to ruin yourself.

The best high-end wired headphones: Audio-Technica ATH-M50X

Best high end

Audio-Technica ATH-M50X

With its very good manufacturing quality and its detailed and balanced sound, it is still one of the best products on the market. It is also very comfortable, which promises long listening sessions.

Despite the arrival of a new version with the MSR7B , this model is still an excellent choice, especially at the price at which it is offered. Whether you are an audiophile or a professional, it offers very high precision, free from distortion. It is certainly not made to be used on the move with its fairly limited passive insulation … But that is not what it is intended for.

In terms of sound quality, nothing to complain about. The M50X is intended purely and simply for monitoring which makes loyalty the key word. It offers a well-balanced reproduction with sufficient bass input. Its mediums allow you to effectively transcribe the instruments and the voices and treble are not neglected. The only slight black spot comes from the sound scene, somewhat limited by the closed design chosen by the brand.

In comfort, quality is also there. It follows the contour of your head effectively while being easily adjustable. The “over-ear” headphones can pivot on a vertical and horizontal axis, which allows them to both adapt to your body and fold them up for transport. The pads are comfortable even if they are quite thin. They are covered with imitation leather which, unfortunately, can cause a feeling of heating after a long period of use.

Passive reduction of ambient noise is quite effective, which allows you to enjoy it regardless of the environment where you are. Of course, it is not as effective as the active reduction of more expensive helmets but, for the price, it is a good performance.

Finally, you may want to consider using it while on the go. It is adorned with sturdy plastic which allows it to have some impact and, as we said above, it can be completely folded down which makes it easier to store in a bag. The cable is removable and the brand provides you with 3 formats: 1 coiled cord, practical on the move and 2 rights of different lengths. Take care of it because they have a proprietary connection which makes them more expensive to replace.

In the end, if you have the necessary budget, it is a good solution to listen to a natural and clear reproduction of your favorite tracks, whether at home or on the go.

A cheap alternative: Shure SRH145

Cheap alternative

Shure SRH145

True to the brand’s reputation for audio, it offers extremely high sound quality in a compact and easily transportable format, making it a good companion for your daily journeys.

Despite its on-ear design, these headphones offer high audio quality combined with good sound insulation. It has beautiful qualities such as a rich and detailed sound, comfort suitable for all sizes and a reliable construction. In the end, its only faults are related to its size and its price range: the bass slightly lack power and the outer coating, of lower quality, is sensitive to scratches.

Shure is well known to music lovers, especially for its excellent camera microphones. It is, therefore, natural that one of their helmets should be in our selection. Thus, faithful to the philosophy of the brand, it offers audio quality worthy of the name: the bass has a good definition (even if they lack a little power) and the treble are sharp. The result is a rich, detailed and relatively precise sound.

As a result, it is suitable for listening to a good variety of music.

Lightweight and easily adjustable, it can suit all heads… and all ears thanks to its port on the ear. It is therefore comfortable to wear it for several hours, in particular thanks to the fact that it does not exert too much pressure on the sides of the head. Its contained weight means that little padding is necessary, for the benefit of its compactness.

As a bonus, a rare occurrence for on-ear, the sound insulation is interesting. Admittedly, it will not filter all ambient noise as the best over-ear but the level of attenuated noise is sufficient to allow it to be used on the move.

Finally, when we focus on mobility, he is one of the best students in this selection. Its fully foldable design conceals quality construction despite the use of plastic. It has a cable short enough not to get tangled in it (1.5 m) and requires little power which makes it easy to use with all kinds of sources.

Unfortunately, its metallic effect coating is quite sensitive to scratches. So make sure you have a pocket to protect it.

To sum up, if you are looking for a good balance between portability and audio quality, it is perfect.

A mid-range alternative: Sony MDR-7506

Mid-range alternative

Sony MDR-7506

Having arrived on the market for many years, this range of headphones is the industry benchmark when it comes to monitoring headphones. It is mainly characterized by its exceptional sound quality.

Price not available on Amazon

If you want a balance between price and sound quality, then the MDR-7506 is ideal. It is certainly not the most practical with its long and robust cable but in terms of audio, it is a reference. We find it unfortunate that the brand did not pay more attention to its visual, which is not at the level of its skills.

So let’s start with its main asset: sound. Reserved for audiophiles, it perfectly reproduces the entire soundstage, without any particular color. It is considered an industry standard as it is efficient in this area. Monitoring professionals appreciate it mainly because it effectively transcribes each variation present in the audio track.

As it is primarily intended for professionals, the brand ignores a worked design without sacrificing comfort. Thus, even if the pads do not have memory foam, they are very comfortable for long hours of use. In addition, it remains relatively light. Some users still note a small lack of padding and a hoop that can tighten a little too hard the more sensitive heads.

Sound insulation level, its over-ear design promotes passive noise reduction while minimizing leaks. You can, therefore, enjoy your titles without deterioration due to external sources.

Finally, it is essentially in mobility that the shoe pinches. It is equipped with a long and thick cable which, although robust, is anything but practical on the move. It adds significant weight to the whole and its length can be inconvenient. As a bonus, it is made entirely of plastic which makes it less durable and it requires a good level of power which closes the door on many smartphones. Its only advantage on this point is its fully folding design which makes it rather compact.

In short, if you want a very good headset for sedentary listening and you don’t care much about the design, it is the perfect model … otherwise, go your way.

Honorable mentions

Audio-Technica MSR7B :

evolution of our best high-end, it pays more attention to the consumer by combining its excellent audio quality with an increase in manufacturing quality, reduced impedance and more practical features such as a cable containing a remote control and a microphone. The frequency amplitude is revised upwards, making it compatible with high-resolution audio.

The Best Men’s Slipper

March 30, 2020 by prolonews Leave a Comment

After several hours of research, we have preselected and compared some twenty models in order to find the best men’s slippers of the moment. Today, they are without a doubt the most convincing Berkeley Toms . Easy to put on and very warm thanks to the faux sheepskin lining, they can be used indoors and outdoors. In addition, the brand is committed to providing a pair of shoes to a poor person for any purchase!

The Best Men's Slipper

Why trust us

The Selectos editorial team spends thousands of hours researching, analyzing and comparing products in order to find those that offer the best value for money.

None of our articles are sponsored. We sometimes receive a commission when you buy a product through our links, which allows us to finance our work while remaining completely impartial.

How did we choose?

Nothing like, during these cold winter days, to go home and pamper your toes in soft and warm slippers, for a cozy and comfortable evening. But the slippers come in many forms and at very variable prices, which can often complicate the purchase.

Don’t worry: here are a few tips to help you decide which slippers are right for you.

First, it helps to determine which type of model is best for you:

  • Slippers : they typically cover the front of your foot, and are open at the back. Very easy to put on, they may however keep your toes a little less warm during the coldest months, and hold a little less on the feet.
  • Slippers to put on : this time they cover the entire foot. Flexible, you can slip in and out easily, since they are not equipped with laces. They will keep you warm in winter. They sometimes come in the form of ankle boots , rising higher on the ankle.
  • Charentaises : traditionally from the Charentes and made from felt residues, they generally have a rigid sole, and cover the entire foot. They are often recognizable by the tongue going up on the front of the foot.
  • Moccasins : traditionally made of animal skin and revealing the seams, they are light and durable, and often suitable for partially outdoor use.

Then, you will need to choose a pair according to the material (depending on the season in which you want to wear your slippers, while preferably opting for breathable materials) and the use you intend to make of it: a solid sole and durable will be necessary if you want to wear your slippers outside, for example.

We therefore took these various elements into consideration during our research, which led us to preselect around twenty models. We then consulted various reference sites and blogs in the French and English speaking worlds, and we were helped by the many consumer returns.

It is thanks to these analyzes that we were able to determine which are currently the 5 best men’s slippers available on the European market.

The best cheap men’s slippers

It is very easy to find many entry-level models, but their quality is likely to vary quite considerably.

The two pairs that we have included stand out for their comfort and will keep your feet warm during the coldest months.

Estro Frost : the best cheap

Easy to put on, these leather slippers can be chosen with or without an inner wool lining. Light and warm, they have a memory foam interior and are available in various timeless colors.

Open at the back, they are easy to put on, and require no effort or manual help. They effectively protect your feet, and especially your toes, from the cold.

The outer lining is leather. Although the brand claims that it is genuine leather, some users seem to strongly doubt it, especially since no label attesting to this is affixed to the shoes.

That said, they are no less comfortable. A little stiff at first, they soften and adapt to the shape of your feet quite quickly.

In addition, they are equipped with memory foam, able to adapt to the shape of the foot, absorb shock in the heel by cushioning each step and improve blood circulation.

The synthetic sole is quite hard but remains comfortable, without being most durable.

The little more interesting is that the slippers are offered in two versions: a “normal” version for the months with milder weather, as well as a second with a sheep wool lining to keep your feet warm during the freezing winter evenings!

Each version is also available in three colors: brown,  gray and black (with and without wool). Timeless, classic colors that will undoubtedly suit most of you.

Andres Machado Alpino : cheap alternatives

These slippers have a felt top, ideal against the cold, and rubber soles. Like most slippers, they have no closure system, just put them on! In addition, they are available in many sizes and various colors.

The slippers cover the top of the foot well without becoming annoying, which is a nice advantage. They are designed to hold on to the foot with a slightly raised sole for better comfort in the heel, but also in the back (thanks to an ideal posture).

The sole has the good taste of being non-slip and is quite thick, without sacrificing anything in terms of flexibility. In addition, who says thick sole, says better insulation of cold floors. These slippers therefore keep feet warm.

They are made from 70% wool and 30% polyester, resulting in a very comfortable felt. On the other hand, it would seem that it is not the most durable. Indeed, some users notice that the felt is pierced fairly quickly. It all depends of course on the use you will make of your slippers.

Unisex, they are available in many sizes, ranging from 26 to 50! That said, note that, according to users, they tend to be pruned a bit large.

Finally, as they come in fifteen different colors, everyone should find their preference.

Although it is a pity that the lifespan of these slippers is limited, they remain very appreciated by consumers and delight them by the wide choice of size, their very good insulation and their non-slip and comfortable sole.

The best mid-range men’s slippers

In this category, both quality and price are on the rise.

The slippers we have included come from well-known brands that are highly appreciated by consumers.

Tom Berkeley : the best mid-range

These slippers, very popular across the Atlantic, are distinguished by their solid and durable sole, their possible use indoors and outdoors, and their very comfortable fleece in faux sheep, for feet warm in winter.

It is therefore an ideal pair if you are looking for versatile slippers, which you can wear both inside your house and outside. Note that they will obviously be more durable, worn indoors, in less harsh conditions.

The rubber sole is very thick and solid, which many appreciate for walking with ease. Others, however, find it a little too hard for a sole of slippers. Nevertheless, it absorbs shocks very well, which makes the liner all the more comfortable.

Easy to put on, the slippers effectively protect the foot, and are reinforced with a small buttress at the back. The black faux fur lining is there to keep the foot warm and is very soft. They are therefore great to wear in winter.

If their design is simple enough, it has the advantage of being versatile. Several colors are also available, including for example a very traditional checkered model !

Finally, a significant advantage when buying a pair of Berkeley is the participation in the One for One action developed by the brand. Indeed, for each pair purchased, it offers help to a disadvantaged person. So, that’s all good: we give pleasure to her little feet, and to a stranger in need!

Sorel Falcon Ridge : mid-range alternatives

These slippers offer a suede leather upper combined with a wool and acrylic lining. The insole is made of foam and thus offers great comfort, while the natural rubber sole is there to ensure excellent grip on the ground.

In addition, these slippers keep your feet warm, and are therefore perfect for freezing winter evenings or to simply brave the tiles a little too cool. The padding is also very comfortable.

The sole gives the impression of wearing shoes at the outer sole and being barefoot at the inner sole, which is a real plus. In addition, it is silent: no tiresome noise or creaking when walking with it.

However, users point out that the choice of the ideal size is quite difficult: the brand is quite small, which can be restrictive when buying online.

The design of these slippers is quite original. They have a large seam giving them a raw and solid appearance at the same time.

Several colors are available in fairly sober tones. The color of the fur also changes to marry rather happily with the color of the slipper chosen.

On the other hand, this model has lost the first place because of its apparently variable lifespan: if many users applaud the latter, many are dissatisfied with it, especially given the higher price.

The best high-end men’s slippers

In this category, only one pair of slippers seemed to us to justify its high price by its comfort, its elegant design and its flexibility.

UGG Ascot : the best high-end

Very well made, these leather slippers with wool lining are like real indoor shoes. Warm and comfortable, they embed an elegant and pleasant design, all for a very decent life.

Easy to put on, they cover the foot perfectly, like classic shoes. The leather or suede exterior , depending on your preferences, is of high quality, and the rubber soles are durable and allow you to wear your slippers wherever you want.

On the other hand, these are apparently a little thin and narrow compared to the rest of the shoe, which can cause, in the long term, a problem of wear on the ends of the liner. However, this should not be a major concern if you only wear them indoors.

Otherwise, if you take care of them, these slippers should accompany you faithfully for several years, which, given their price, is rather good news.

The wool lining, in addition to giving the shoe a cozy appearance, is really comfortable and brings pleasant warmth to your feet, which is particularly appreciated during the colder months. These are really warm and comfortable slippers.

If the slippers seem to cut small at first, it would seem, according to user feedback, that they will eventually adapt after a few days of wearing.

Finally, if the colors offered remain sober, this allows you not to get tired of them. In view of the apparent manufacturing quality and their appreciated design, it is a good thing: they may follow you for several years.

Honorable mentions

Bigu : available in various colors, from the most versatile to the most cheerful, these slip-on shoes are light and comfortable to wear. Made of synthetic material but breathable, they are very easy to clean with water, and can be used indoors and outdoors. They are particularly practical at the beach or the pool! By cons, for outdoor use, the soles are very thin, and according to users, it is quite difficult to get the right size the first time.

Hanes : although a little less popular than the models included in our selection, this pair of slippers, portable indoors and outdoors, has something to seduce. Users particularly appreciate the practical and durable non-slip rubber soles. By cons, it is at the heel that the shoe hurts, since many find the shoe uncomfortable in this place. This slight discomfort is however slightly compensated by the memory foam and the plush lining, which keep the feet warm.

Deer Stags Nordic : these suede slip-on moccasins edged with faux fur keep your feet warm in winter – or even a little too warm, as they seem to tend to sweat. On the other hand, comfort remains very present, and the aesthetics of the slippers, which are available in various colors, pleases many consumers.

Glerups : these woolen slippers, felt style, have a leather sole. They have the advantage of being both warm and breathable, to ensure undeniable comfort. In addition, they are very light, and quiet when you move. Finally, their fairly minimalist design appeals, and they also exist in ankle boots version . Too bad, once again, that it seems to be difficult to find the right size, and that their price remains quite high.

In conclusion, which men’s slippers to choose?

Toms Berkeley slippers are the best choice for indoor and outdoor use. With their faux sheepskin lining and rubber sole, they are very comfortable and have a nice all-round design. In addition, thanks to the One for One campaign, the brand undertakes to provide, for any purchase, a pair of shoes to a poor person!

For indoor use and at a low price, the Estro Frost are an excellent choice. Easy to put on, light and very comfortable, they are available in a “leather” finish with a simple interior or padded in wool, to keep the cold seasons warm!

Finally, the UGG Ascot shine with their comfort, the quality of their manufacture and their elegant design. With their leather uppers and their woolen inner lining, they keep your feet warm during the colder months. On the other hand, although they are durable, they require a more substantial initial investment.

The Best Scented Candle In The World

March 30, 2020 by prolonews Leave a Comment

After several hours of research among some forty scented candles, we have determined that Nao represents the best that is currently being done. Made from organic rapeseed wax and ecological and natural fragrances, it displays an attractive price and ensures a sweet, fragrant atmosphere made in France. However, if you want to give this candle as a gift to one of the women in your life , we recommend the My Jolie Candle and its hidden jewel inside.

The Best Scented Candle In The World

Why trust us ?

The Selectos editorial team spends thousands of hours researching, analyzing and comparing products in order to find those that offer the best value for money.

None of our articles are sponsored. We sometimes receive a commission when you buy a product through our links, which allows us to finance our work while remaining completely impartial.

How did we choose?

Nothing like the warm light and the sweet scent of a candle during beautiful winter cocooning evenings, or long evening evenings on the terrace after a barbecue during the most beautiful months! If the selection of the perfume is of course very subjective, it may be wise to rely on the quality of the candle itself to guide its choice.

To do this, here are some elements – from aesthetics to the composition of models – to take into account.

First of all, remember that candles come in several forms, the following are the most common:

  • In a jar : generally placed in glass jars, they can (and must) burn directly in their containers. These can be reused after the candle has melted, since they are often aesthetically pleasing. Some candles are even surmounted by an elegant cover intended to best preserve the fragrances. It is a particularly ideal format to offer.
  • In columns and votives : the candles in column extend without surprise in height, and come in different sizes. The votives have a more distinctive shape: a little wider at the top than the bottom. Small in size, they are approximately 5 cm high, and must be placed in a suitable container, which makes it possible to make the most of their useful life.
  • The dish warmers : are the most widespread and the most sold in the world. They are ideal to place in a pretty tealight holder or in a candle holder. They exist in a scented version, but their small size clearly limits the diffusion of fragrances. This is perhaps the reason why they are used more in burners with tarts , these small wax patties that must be allowed to melt so that they diffuse their fragrance.

Their composition and, therefore, their quality also vary. Thus, you will generally encounter three types of waxes which are:

  • Mineral wax : the cheapest and most common, it comes in the form of paraffin , derived from petrochemicals. This origin has given rise to controversies, whether at the environmental level because of its non-renewable nature, or in terms of health because of the discussions on its potential toxicities and harmfulnesses. Note that regardless of the wax in your candle, burning can be irritating to the airways. Do not hesitate to ventilate your interior well.
  • Vegetable wax : it has the advantage of burning more slowly and therefore offers longer combustion, while diffusing far less toxic fumes. Make sure it is guaranteed GMO-free and ideally from sustainable crops, or even certified organic. The most popular is soy wax , but coconut and jojoba are also gaining popularity. There are also palm waxes, but they are often linked to controversies concerning deforestation.
  • Animal wax : beeswax , more traditional, is often reserved for a more artisanal use, and is offered at a generally less democratic price. It burns very slowly and diffuses a sweet, honeyed smell. Unlike other alternatives, it is unfortunately not suitable for vegans.

You will also need to take into account the following characteristics:

  • Perfume : it goes without saying that it is better to favor natural perfumes, most often from essential oils , since synthetic perfumes are likely to be harmful to health, even sometimes carcinogenic. However, it is often difficult to find the exact origin from the product’s list of ingredients.
  • The wick : manufacturers frequently use synthetic materials , which are nevertheless to be avoided. If possible, therefore choose cotton wicks , ideally guaranteed lead-free. There are also versions in wood , which are attracting more and more consumers by their crackling with the look of a wood fire.

Unfortunately, the composition of candles is often difficult to pin down, due to the lack of transparency of certain brands. In the absence of information relating to the ingredients used, it seemed to us wiser not to include the models concerned, since it is necessarily difficult for us to assess their quality and reliability.

However, we have decided to direct our selection towards natural, healthy and safe candles, for the environment as for us. Thus, we preserve our health while enjoying the decorative benefits of these small popular objects!

This in-depth research has enabled us to make our selection of the 5 best scented candles available on the market today.

Our Choice: Nao Naturelle Rose

Made from vegetable oil and with a cotton wick, this natural candle diffuses a sweet floral fragrance based on rose essential oil. The latter is very popular, as is its reusable glass container, which is therefore quite versatile. A real significant point: the Nao is certified organic and made in France!

In an environmentally responsible approach, this candle is made from vegetable rapeseed wax (GMO-free) and shea butter. If the brand has chosen to use this particular wax, it is to reduce its carbon footprint since the rapeseed flower is mainly grown in Europe. It is also (and above all) non-toxic and biodegradable.

This 120g model offers a long burn time of around 30 hours.

The jar in which the candle is located is made of glass, which makes it a container that is both reusable and recyclable. As for the cork stopper, it allows the perfumes to be stored as well as possible.

These are obviously of natural origin. They come from essential oils, vegetable oils or natural solvents. We present here a classic and essential fragrance with a heart note of rose and geranium, enhanced by the sweetness of chamomile and the suave side of patchouli. You can also let yourself be tempted by the relaxing scent of verbena , or the greedy notes of almond .

The wicks used are lead-free cotton, and the products are manufactured in Nantes. Also note that the candles are wrapped in organic cotton bags from Les Mouettes Vertes , a company that makes textiles that respect people and the environment.

In short, we particularly appreciate this candle for its top composition and respectful of the environment and we salute the simplicity and effectiveness of the perfumes used and the design. It is still little known, its notoriety therefore remains to be done!

The best mid-range scented candle: My Jolie Candle Fleur de Cerisier

Perhaps you already know the original concept proposed by this brand as it has been talked about on the canvas. In this candle hides a little surprise gem that reveals itself to you when the wax has sufficiently melted. It can also count on a captivating perfume as well as on a pleasantly refined design.

It is therefore a two-in-one gift, ideal to offer. Here we have selected one of the brand’s bestsellers with the fragrance “cherry blossom”, which will undoubtedly take you on a journey through the idyllic gardens of Japan.

My Jolie Candle is characterized by a wax of vegetable origin made from soy, mango and coconut.

It is kept in a white glass jar, topped with the brand’s signature and flowery graphics reminiscent of its cardboard packaging as well as the perfume itself.

If the latter is formulated by experts in Grasse (that is to say in the French capital of perfume), the candle is indeed made in Spain and has a wick made of lead-free cotton, for our greater pleasure.

Designed to keep you company for around 70 hours, it weighs 330 g, including jewelry.

Note that the price of the products varies according to the jewel you find inside. The brand offers bracelets, rings, necklaces and earrings. In addition to being guaranteed for 6 months, these are all handcrafted and are available in several finishes which include gold / silver plated as well as rhodium plating. Set with Swarovski crystals, they are also supplied with the appropriate certification.

In the end, this two-in-one candle hides a nice surprise for a very reasonable price. Indeed, the brand offers a candle as natural as healthy and a jewel of the most qualitative.

The best high-end scented candle: Le Labo Verveine 32

Created in New York from the know-how and the development of French perfumes, this candle with a basic and modern design seduces many followers of original and natural fragrances thanks to its artisanal manufacture and its ecological design.

Its vegetable soy wax comes in a simple design. Indeed, it is poured into a thick glass which is then covered with a basic and somewhat retro label. The little extra is that it is customizable. In other words, you can decide to affix your name or that of the lucky recipient, for a possible gift.

If the fragrances composed by Le Labo are all more original than each other, we have opted here for a candle with comforting properties, made possible by the delicate floral notes that emerge.

It must be said that the scents are formulated from essential oils. Verbena 32 thus has a combava zest mixed with eucalyptus, galbanum and violet leaves.

As is already the case for the perfumes, shower gels and shampoos produced by the brand, this 245g candle is topped with a natural cotton wick which is handcrafted in a factory located in Mississippi (United States United).

In the end, it seduces with its unusual fragrance as well as its original container which remains rather simple. In addition to its clean composition, we appreciate the fact that you can personalize the label, even if the price is not a gift…

A mid-range alternative: La Belle Mèche Fleur d’Oranger

Since 2013, this French brand has aimed to create modern and original products and perfumes for the home, while respecting the planet. Its candles are created from vegetable wax from renewable sources and are characterized by the presence of three wicks diffusing the perfumes optimally.

Thus, this model is made from vegetable soy wax renewable without GMOs. Its weight of 190g gives it a burning time of around 50 hours, but it is also available in a 650g version (at a price obviously much higher) or in the form of a diffuser .

Its design is very simple since it is poured into a glass, set with a basic label, certainly, but modern. The container is of course reusable, which should appeal to fans of zero waste.

The perfumes are developed by a perfumer from Grasse and are composed of essential oils and fragrances without toxic or carcinogenic substances. If we have opted here for the essential floral and musky scent of orange blossom, know that the brand offers a wide range of more original fragrances than each other. Therefore, you find associations such as tomato / basil and cucumber / watermelon , or even honeyed tobacco and powdered blackberry .

Whatever you choose, you always get three wicks made from lead-free cotton.

You should also know that La Belle Mèche transforms its perfumes into liquid soaps. All products and their components are made in France in order to ensure optimal quality control and to respect people and the environment as well as possible.

Here is a very attractive candle because of its composition and its fragrance. We are particularly won over by the amazing scents offered by the brand as well as by its ethics.

A high-end alternative: Love Yourself Each Other, “La Vie en Rose” Collection

Made in Brussels, these models accompany you from 55 to 80 hours, depending on the format you choose. To their vegetable wax are added a cotton wick and perfumes from Grasse respectful of man and the environment. Ecological even in the products used for delivery, the “La Vie en Rose” collection offers scents suitable for the arrival of spring as well as cards to customize.

The brand does honor to Belgium by offering eco-responsible candles of 300g and 450g which all consist of vegetable wax but not only. Indeed, the latter is also vegan and certified without additives, without GMOs and, of course, without pesticides.

The different models are presented in a colored glass case which can therefore be reused as you wish. This zero waste philosophy also applies during delivery.

Indeed, each candle is delivered in a reusable organic cotton pouch and comes with matches and, perhaps more surprisingly, a card to personalize with a positive quote on Love. If this contribution seems minimal, it nevertheless reflects the altruistic commitment made by the brand.

Whether you choose the candle with fig leaves, that of ginger tonka or the yuzu bergamot model, you always benefit from perfumes from Grasse, selected without CMR (carcinogens, mutagens and / reprotoxics) and phthalate.

So, not only do you have a healthy product that has an untreated cotton wick, but you also end up with an artisan candle that is poured by hand in Brussels.

It is indeed the subtle mixture between the quality of the elements used and the work of craftsmen who decided us to integrate this collection into our selection.

Honorable mentions

Yankee Candle, Freshly Washed Cotton : with its good smell of fresh linen , this 623g candle offers you a combustion of 150 hours, a duration that is quite efficient for the price at which this model is offered. It is made of high quality paraffin and has a lead-free cotton wick. Clean and elegant, it comes in a glass jar, surmounted by a lid made from the same material. This preserves the aromas of white flowers and sun-dried cotton which, we are convinced, will bring you a delicate note on the return of sunny days.

Woo : available in several sizes, it diffuses a sweet, relaxing scent of honeysuckle, cardamom and citrus fruits formulated from essential oils from sustainable sources. Beeswax and wick made of lead-free cotton offer a burning time of around thirty hours. In addition, the container comes from upcycling and is actually an elegantly transformed vodka bottle bottom. Finally, the brand is committed to showcasing the skills of artisans from vulnerable backgrounds.

La Jolie Muse : with its elegant and very attractive packaging, this candle with the scent of white tea creates a serene atmosphere in your interior thanks to its fruity notes enhanced with jasmine. Its natural soy wax is biodegradable and eco-friendly. Heavy of 400 g and equipped with a double wick, it burns during about seventy hours. On the other hand, it would seem that it is a little difficult to consume all the wax, which would tend to be fixed on the walls.

The Best Lavalier Microphone

March 30, 2020 by Alex Leave a Comment

After several hour of research, I finally made my selection of the best lavalier microphones from more than thirty commercial models currently available on the market. The one that I found the most interesting from a quality-price, durability and reliability point of view is the Audio-Technica PRO70. You will also find at the end of this article a buying guide that will allow you to find the lapel microphone of your dreams … Or in any case the one that best suits your needs and your budget. Good reading!

The best cheap lapel microphones

To ensure a certain audio quality, you still have to be ready to invest a few dozen euros in your lapel microphone. But do not panic! There are high-performance models at fairly affordable prices.

Rode Smartlav + : the best entry-level

Advantages

  • Good value for money
  • Without batteries
  • Good audio quality
  • Easy to use
  • Disadvantages
  • Compatible only with smartphone

The Rode SmartLav + is an entry-level lapel microphone that can be found everywhere as soon as we look into the subject: many vloggers and podcasters recommend it and audiovisual professionals do not spit no longer on it.

We quickly understand why. It is a small, simple microphone specially designed for use with smartphones and tablets, which works without batteries and offers good audio quality.

The microphone is supplied with a clip, a windscreen foam windscreen, a Velcro fastening for the cable and a small pocket to store everything. It has a TRRS plug compatible with iPhone (beware! Not the latest, which do not have a jack) and some Android smartphones.

IPhone users can download the Rode Rec app, which allows you to make and export recordings with or without wires. There are two versions of the app, one free and the other paid, which offers premium features such as an equalizer, Dropbox compatibility or even different playback speeds.

The microphone is extremely easy to use: just plug it into your phone’s jack and start recording. Omnidirectional microphones (this is the case with this one) are well suited to picking up voice, because they do not force the speaker to remain in a static position, but are still relatively vulnerable to background noise.

Here, it is relatively well mastered and we immediately appreciate the sound quality, clear and limpid with a sensitivity quite correct: no need to dig into the recording parameters to have a good voice performance .

It is particularly suitable for use in “micro-HF microphone”: instead of an expensive wireless system with transceiver (for which you can easily count up to € 500), you can clip the microphone to the interlocutor’s jacket and plug it into a smartphone that you can slip into the person’s pocket for freedom of movement.

Ideal when you want to make recordings in the field, knowing that you can then export the recordings to add them to a video track.

There are still two major drawbacks to this type of system. First, the impossibility of performing simultaneous monitoring of its recording, with the risk of ending up with extraneous noise (rubbing of clothes, etc.) and having to start all over again.

However, this is not an inherent problem with SmartLav +, but with all microphones of this nature. More specifically in this specific case, to use this microphone with a device other than a smartphone (his PC for example, or even a recorder) it would be necessary to acquire a TRRS to TRS adapter, which represents an additional cost not negligible.

In addition, you should know that iPhones from 7 and more and more Android phones (the Huawei P20 for example, or the Lenovo Moto Z) are devoid of jack, and more and more manufacturers phone should continue this momentum.

We can therefore ask the question of the merits of a “special smartphone” microphone which in a year or two would not be compatible with most phones on the market without a TRRS to Lightning or USB-C adapter.

It is however a microphone that I do not hesitate to recommend because of its affordable price, its ease of use and the quality of its audio recordings.

Audio-Technica ATR-3350iS : quality sound with simplicity

Advantages

  • Affordable price
  • Correct sound quality
  • Smartphone adapter
  • Disadvantages
  • Low sensitivity
  • No On / Off indicator

Let’s start our review of entry-level lavalier microphones with this low-cost model from the Japanese brand Audio Technica. With its very low price at less than 50 € and its smartphone connector, it is a microphone intended for a clear and precise reproduction of the voice, ideal, according to the brand, for aerobics or sport monitors ( personally, I’m not sure that a wired microphone is the most suitable system for this kind of use, but hey…).

It is an omnidirectional microphone with a 6 m cable (!) Integrated with a 3.5 mm mini-jack. It comes with its tie clip, a battery, an anti-foam windscreen and, as I said above, a TRRS smartphone adapter which makes it compatible with Android and iOS phones (supposedly! I will come back on the matter a little later).

One is immediately struck by the length of the cable, which, unless you need it for very specific use cases (an exclusive interview with a person on an elephant’s back for example?) Is likely to annoy more than ‘something else. With a weight of just over 6 g, it is very light and will slip easily into your bag – too bad, just that there is no pouch or case provided because with this gigantic cable, hello knots.

I also wonder about the durability of the pliers provided, questioned by some online reviews – it is actually not of remarkable solidity.

The microphone works thanks to a LR44 battery (supplied), but does not have an On / Off indicator, which means that there is a strong risk of forgetting to switch it off one day and finding the device consequently completely discharged. There is also no battery level indicator, knowing that LR44 batteries are not the easiest to find on the market: so remember to always plan one or two in advance.

As the battery drains, the audio quality of your microphone gradually deteriorates, and it’s pretty much the only way to determine its condition: so not very practical.

Fortunately, when it comes to sound quality, it’s not bad at all. You should know that the sensitivity of this microphone is not particularly high and that it must be adjusted to the level of your recorder to ensure clarity and intelligibility of the voice.

If you use the smartphone adapter provided, the sensitivity decreases all the more… So expect to have to make adjustments and record in a quiet place without too much surrounding noise. This question aside, the sound is quite correct and the voices are very well rendered.

Let’s come back to this question of smartphone adapter, which supposedly allows you to use the microphone with both Android and iOS: without a second adapter, it will not be compatible with the latest models of iPhone or iPad or with some newer Androids that don’t have a jack at all.

In conclusion, I will say that if your only objective is to have a sound of better quality than that provided by the integrated microphone of your smartphone or camera, this model will do the trick very well.

Otherwise, there are models for just a few euros more that do not require a battery, have a higher sensitivity and that do not have a cable several meters long in which to catch your feet in full Facebook Live.

The best mid-range clip-on microphones

Although an entry-level microphone may do the trick for simple voice pickup under static conditions, it may be necessary to invest a few euros more when you want a little more mobility or quality sound.

Small overview of mid-range microphones.

Audio-Technica Pro 70 : the best mid-range

Advantages

  • Excellent value
  • Very good audio quality
  • Durable
  • Disadvantages
  • Subject to extraneous noise

We are going back to Audio Technica for this professional quality condenser lavalier cardioid microphone, designed to capture both voices and instruments. The range of lavalier microphones of the Japanese brand is generally very appreciated by both consumers and critics, recognized both for the quality of the sound and for the durability of the devices.

The AT PRO 70 is no exception. The components are very good, the finish is neat, the autonomy is excellent (you can choose between battery and phantom power) and the sound is above all of very good quality. The microphone is very popular for taking sound from acoustic instruments and a specific clamp is also provided for this purpose. It is also compatible with DSLR cameras using an XLR cable.

Admittedly, it is not a high-end microphone – we suspected, given its price around 200 € – but the sound produced is still professional and of a quality well above many lavalier microphones currently available on the market.

The microphone comes with its battery, two clips (clothes and instrument), a carrying case and has a gold-plated XLR output. We regret a little bit that the microphone is not detachable from the housing, which limits the possibilities of repair in the event of a breakdown.

Cardioid, the AT PRO 70 has very good sound insulation and effectively reduces ambient noise and reverberation while ensuring faithful performance of the voice or its instrument. Beware of parasites all the same: like all directional microphones, it tends to pick up the rustling and noises of friction of the device on clothing.

Even with its foam windscreen, it remains sensitive to the wind at the same time and is therefore not the most suitable microphone for outdoor capture.

We really appreciate its ease of use, with a small downside: if we choose battery power (we are happy to see that the microphone works thanks to an AA battery, easily available everywhere) you should know that there is no level indicator on the housing.

The autonomy is about ten hours; it is still better to provide recharging batteries and thus avoid being short in full capture.

In conclusion, a microphone of excellent value for money that will delight musicians and those who wish to make presentations or promotional videos, with a yield of fidelity rarely seen in a lavalier microphone.

Reliable, professional-quality equipment at a mid-range price: what more could you ask for?

Hey Mic! : interesting concept, but can do better

Advantages

  • High mobility
  • Good range
  • Disadvantages
  • Android compatibility issues
  • Poor sound quality

We discover a small UFO with the Hey Mic !, a brand new fully wireless model which, however, works without using a transmitter / receiver system. Designed by a duo of British conference consultants, this 100% Bluetooth microphone which calls itself “ An AV team in your pocket ” clips onto the interlocutor’s clothes like a classic model and works hand in hand with its Hey Cam app.

Great idea in principle – but what does it look like on the ground? The convenience of Bluetooth in general is no longer to be questioned, but it is true that on the audio quality side, it usually leaves a lot to be desired compared to the wired.

Once again, we are on a model specially designed to work with smartphones. Marketing clearly targets an audience of vloggers, consultants and salespeople.

Weighing around 10 g, it is delivered in a small box in playful colors with its case, its micro USB charging cable, a small user manual and, the little touch that we appreciate, a magnetic support that we can be used to hang the microphone if you are not wearing clothes allowing it to be clipped, such as a turtleneck. Not stupid !

The microphone itself is black plastic looking a bit cheap and has two volume buttons, a 3.5 mm jack and a pairing button. Everything is designed for maximum portability and offers an autonomy of about 6 hours.

You can easily imagine keeping the small case at the bottom of your bag to take it out as soon as you feel the need to make a small capture.

Big advantage of the concept: we are done with the stories of TRS vs. TRRS, various and varied jack and adapters in every way: Bluetooth works with everything! Uh … in theory.

Hey Cam is currently only available in iOS version, and even if the manufacturer recommends Android apps that can do the trick, we quickly encounter problems as soon as we move away from the native app. Cuts, distortions, or no sound at all. You will understand: caveat Android users (Apple followers may not want to limit themselves to the official app either).

Another downside: it is not possible to make Facebook Live, YouTube Live or Periscope videos via mobile with this microphone, because the apps in question simply do not accept Bluetooth as an audio source.

Regarding the quality of the captures, it is unfortunately not too much either. The microphone is quite sensitive and renders voices audibly, and that’s it.

The sound, metallic and hollow, does not correspond at all to what one would expect from a professional microphone. The Hey Mic! does not pretend to be one, you will tell me, but with a price which is around 100 € we expect much better. We still appreciate a fairly large range of up to 20 m.

In conclusion ? The performance of the whole still leaves much to be desired, especially in terms of sound quality.

However, the concept remains very interesting and the product may need to evolve afterwards. We are waiting to see that!

The best high end lavalier microphones

Are you looking for quality sound, mobility, versatility and innovation? Discover the best high-end lavalier microphone currently available on the market.

Samson Go Mic Mobile : the best high-end

Advantages

  • Great versatility
  • Compatible with all smartphones
  • Many possible configurations
  • Good audio quality
  • Disadvantages
  • Interference issues

Once again, a model specially designed for capturing with your smartphone. The Go Mic Mobile is actually a stereo wireless system with a stand-alone receiver to which you can connect a lavalier microphone (supplied with), a portable handheld microphone or even a micro-barrel for great versatility.

Unlike wireless microphones with traditional transceivers, this one is particularly intended for mobile devices. it is supplied with all the necessary connectors for compatibility with various smartphone models.

The product includes a receiver for mounting on smartphone or tablet, several cables (mini jack, USB-C, micro-B to Lightning) and an AC adapter cable. We appreciate the fact that it is therefore compatible with just about all phones available on the market as well as DSLR cameras via their micro TRS input and cameras.

The receiver operates on a rechargeable lithium-ion battery with an autonomy of approximately six hours according to the manufacturer. It has two analog and digital audio outputs, a volume control and a selector for mixing.

Three configurations are therefore possible: a conventional hand microphone, a lapel microphone with adapter or micro-barrel, with the possibility of simultaneously connecting two microphones to the same case and either mixing them in mono or separating them into a stereo track, choice which is done using a switch.

If you really want to see it big, you can even run three systems at the same time for a total of six microphones. A big plus: you can connect a headset and monitor it simultaneously, allowing you to make all the necessary adjustments in real time.

Usually, HF microphones require a minimum of know-how during start-up and amateurs can quickly feel overwhelmed by events. Here, this is not the case.

This system operates on the 2.4 Ghz frequency band and automatically selects the least congested channel, thereby limiting interference problems. From the point of view of the physical mounting of the case on your phone, various accessories are provided for maximum compatibility.

You understood: we are therefore dealing with a system which is really a cut above the other models tested in terms of compatibility and versatility. But what about audio quality?

The sound produced can be impressive, but only in certain contexts: as soon as you are in a very busy place with a lot of interference, the cuts become numerous.

Fortunately, we have the possibility of monitoring live, which allows us to react in real time in the event of a problem. The system still lends itself better to capturing in a quieter setting.

At the same time, there is the question of charging via micro-USB, especially with regard to a device which also claims to be innovative. A rather curious choice: why not rather USB-C?

Go Mic Mobile is therefore a product which corresponds very well to certain registration conditions and less to others. Those who wish to conduct interviews in a more isolated context will find their happiness and will appreciate both the quality of the audio and the variety of possible configurations.

Others may be frustrated by cutting and interference issues. It’s up to you to assess how you will use it and decide if this type of system is right for you.

We welcome in all cases the connectivity, the versatility and the ease of use of this device which is positioned on a market which is likely to grow more and more in the years to come.

How to choose your lapel microphone?

The clip-on microphone (also known as a lavalier microphone) is a small microphone that hangs on clothing, leaving the presenter’s hands free.

Equipped with a small capsule and a windscreen, it amplifies the voice of a person speaking to an audience, provides better sound quality for recordings and limits interference and unwanted noise.

How do you make sure you choose a microphone that fits both your budget and your needs?

The type of lavalier microphone

Lavalier microphones for smartphones or tablets

There are more and more lavalier microphones designed specifically for use with a smartphone or tablet. This recording method is of course very interesting when you need to quickly capture and share it via messaging or social networks. There are, however, two major drawbacks…

Most of these microphones operate using a TRRS connector, but the latest iPhones and iPads, as well as some newer Android smartphones, do not have a jack. Some brands (Sennheiser) now market models compatible with Apple’s Lightning plug.

When you connect your microphone to the jack, you cannot connect headphones or earphones at the same time and thus follow the recording to ensure the quality. There are commercially available adapters for connecting both simultaneously, but they are often prone to latency issues.

If however you want to record with your smartphone, note that not all microphones work automatically with mobile devices. Conventional microphones have two small bands on the 3.5mm jack (TRS connection).

Microphones compatible with telephone jacks have three small bands (TRRS connection). You will need to either use a TRS to TRRS adapter, or use a microphone with a TRRS connector.

If you record with a camera or other recorder in addition to your smartphone, I can only advise you to invest in a TRS microphone and an adapter. Thus, you will have a versatile microphone compatible with all your tools.

The lapel microphone for carrying out interviews in front of the camera

A lavalier microphone is by far the simplest solution for carrying out an interview in front of the camera, especially if your subject does not move. The microphone should rest on the solar plexus, over clothing.

Be careful that nothing rubs on the microphone to avoid noise that would make your recording completely unusable.

The wired microphone is more suited to static contexts and is generally marketed at a much more affordable price than the wireless microphone. It can perfectly adapt to other contexts, but certain additional criteria must therefore be taken into account (length of the wire for example).

This is a relatively free solution of complications: no battery problems or interference, as can be encountered with wireless microphones, and you can manage audio levels directly from the recorder.

Wireless

The wireless clip-on microphone connects to a transmitter that is usually in your pocket or attached to the presenter’s belt, which returns the signal to a receiver. The microphone therefore inevitably works in pair with a transmitter / receiver duo.

It is a much more expensive system than a wired microphone, with prices easily reaching 800 euros (most of the cost goes to transmitters / receivers), and more complicated to use, with higher possibilities. interference, batteries to be charged both at the transmitter AND the receiver, obsolescence due to the change in frequencies made available, little compatibility between systems, and so on…

Morality of the story: except in cases of great need for freedom of movement, prefer a wired lavalier microphone!

Sound quality

Let us be clear: it is not with a lavalier microphone that you will have an extraordinary quality sound. Quite simply, it is not made for.

But thanks to its small size, its discretion and its portability, the lavalier microphone lends itself easily to use with a smartphone and makes it possible to increase the quality of audio and video capture. The democratization of mobile devices and at the same time the rise of mobile journalism, the Youtubers phenomenon and the new trend of all-out podcasts have contributed to the development of a new series of lavalier microphones that are both affordable and affordable. ” a very respectable quality.

The sensibility

When we talk about the sensitivity of a microphone, we talk about the output voltage provided by it when it is subjected to ambient sound pressure.

The breath

This is the noise that the microphone itself can make, apart from the noise from the recording.

The response curve

This is the way in which the microphone picks up frequencies and favors the midrange and / or treble.

Directivity

This is the area in which the microphone picks up sounds: in particular, 360 ° for omnidirectional microphones and forward for cardioid microphones.
