TENDINOPATHY Ross Hauser, M.D. When a person comes in and says the word ‘tendinopathy’ I know right away several things: ►The person has had a ton of treatments that haven’t worked. ►The person has spent a lot of their own money on treatments that haven’t worked. ►The person has spent a lot of time doing treatments that haven’t worked. ►The person has taken anti-inflammatory medications or had cortisone shots that have actually caused or contributed to the tendinopathy. In my opinion, the only hope the person has for resolution resides in Prolotherapy. Tendinopathy, 95% of the time, means the person has tendinosis or a degenerated muscle origin or tendon. So what caused the tendon or muscle origin or insertion to become degenerated. Cortisone will degenerate these structures, as will anything that inhibits healing. Anti-inflammatories inhibit healing as does ice and rest. So anyone who does the RICE treatment, antiinflammtories or cortisone shots has done treatments that could cause a tendinosis. The best treatment for a tendinosis to tendinopathy in my opinion is Prolotherapy. Prolotherapy stimulates the body to repair muscle origins, insertions and tendon insertions or origins by inducing the proliferation of cells called fibroblasts to lay down collagen. Collagen makes up tendons and muscles. By inducing the body to heal the area, new collagen is laid down. So in essence Prolotherapy causes a tendinosis to become a tendonitis with the end result being normal tendon. Typically tendinosis requires four to ten treatments with Prolotherapy to resolve the issue. I recently received a letter from a patient who had a three year nightmare with bilateral tendinosis of the elbows. She has been pain free for about the last few months and is just ecstatic! The treatment that resolved her problem was Prolotherapy done at Caring Medical in Oak Park Illinois |
