PROLOTHERAPY: A GREAT ALTERNATIVE TREATMENT
FOR SUPRASPINATOUS TENDINOSIS
Ross Hauser, M.D.
I commonly see an
MRI
report that a patient brings in that is
showing tendinosis.
Tendons are what attach muscles to bones and are
involved in the movement of joints. Tendinosis means a degenerated
tendon(s). For someone who has tendinosis of a
rotator cuff tendon,
such as the supraspinatous tendon, or other tendons such as the Achilles tendon, the questions to ask are these:
"Which treatment has the best potential to regenerate my degenerated
tendon?"
Exercise?
It will help strengthen weak muscles, but won't regenerate
degenerated tendons.
Physical therapy?
It can help increase blood flow and make the tendon feel better, but
the area will still be weak and degenerated.
Anti-inflammatories?
No, long-term use causes tendons to become degenerated.
Cortisone shots?
No, they cause tendons to become degenerated.
What about Prolotherapy?
A patient example:
MRI showed tendinosis of the supraspinatous tendon. Doctors wanted
to perform surgery but the patient declined and sought alternative
therapy! She received three Prolotherapy sessions and didn't even
receive shoulder treatments on her last visit because there was no
need - her shoulder felt 99% better. I treated other areas of her
body because her shoulder was healed and she wanted that same
healing in these areas too. She has completed Prolotherapy treatment
to the shoulder. If she desires, we will repeat the MRI to show the
healing.
Prolotherapy turns a tendinosis into a
tendonitis and
eventually a strong tendon. If I had a degenerated body part I would
ask the most pertinent question to those offering me care, “Can this
therapy regenerate the degenerated tendon?” Only one therapy I know
can answer with a resounding “yes!” That therapy is Prolotherapy.
