PRP Case Study
R.V. is a 43 year old engineer who came to
Caring Medical
with complaints of left knee pain and weakness after kicking a heavy bag
during what this patient calls “extreme martial arts”. He denied
swelling, but felt as if his knee was loose with any lateral motion
along with crunching upon bending his knee.
His physical examination revealed tenderness of the
patellar tendon,
MCL,
and medial
meniscus.
An x-ray showed no abnormalities.

Prolotherapy
was done at his first visit using Manganese and Procaine added to the
base Prolotherapy solution. After his 3rd visit, at 4 week intervals, he
reported 70% improvement overall.
Because he was doing so well, R.V. increased his activities and by his
4th visit he had regressed to about 20% so a stronger solution using
sodium morrhuate/cod
liver oil extract was given, and an
MRI
of the knee was ordered. The

showed a small tear of the inferior
surface of the posterior horn
medial
meniscus.
The sodium morrhuate solution along with the addition of
human growth
hormone (HGH)
and
glucosamine
to stimulate cartilage repair, was given every 4 weeks for the next 4
visits, but he plateau’d

at 20% improvement. At his next appointment,
Dr. Hauser and the patient decided to use PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma).
R.V received 6 PRP treatments at an interval of one every 6 weeks. At
his last appointment, he reported 75% overall improvement in his left
knee with decreased pain and crunching in knee and is able to continue
“extreme” martial arts training
