Hannah’s search for arthritis pain
relief after military deployment, leads her to Prolotherapy and the
Hauser Diet
Hannah came to
Caring Medical with multiple areas of pain. At the young age of 30
she was experiencing
low back pain, a stiff
neck, and
numbness in her arms, fingers and toes. Her
low
back pain was
initially very mild and her doctor told her she had mild arthritis. She
did some
physical therapy and
saw minor improvements. Four months after the mild pain began, she was
deployed for military service overseas. The heavy gear that she wore
each day made the pain gradually worsen. One day as she was bending down
she felt a shocking pain come over her low back and right arm. From that
point on she had pain whenever she would bend over and she struggled
through each day in her heavy gear as she walked miles. When she
returned home, she knew she needed help. In addition to her low back
pain,
neck stiffness, and
numbness she was also having pain in her right
ankle, an area that had given her trouble for 12 years. After
deployment, she returned to a stressful job working 12 hour shifts,
seated behind a computer. She was able to workout a few times a week,
but with nagging pain. Her main goal was to get out of pain.
Hanna’s New Patient consultation at
Caring Medical:
At Hannah’s first visit, Dr. Hauser examined her and explained that
Prolotherapy could heal her pain. Hannah wanted more, though. She
wanted to do everything she could possibly do to help
Prolotherapy do its job. She told us that she ate mostly organic
food and was a vegetarian. Despite her attempts at a healthy diet plan
she had a mediocre energy level and experienced a drop in energy around
2pm each day. She also struggled with
PMS, cramping, and mood swings. Dr. Hauser let her know that all of
these issues are diet-related, and that once we knew her
Hauser Diet Type. In our office, we see these symptoms reverse with
proper diet changes. When a female is in ideal health, there are no
signs of PMS, cramping or irregular menses. In Hannah’s case, we needed
to see if part of her problem was eating according to a vegetarian diet
that could be worsening her symptoms. The number one priority was
Diet Typing and
food sensitivity testing to determine the correct diet plan for
Hannah’s unique physiology. The number two priority was hormone testing,
including
thyroid,
cortisol,
and her sex hormone levels. By using these tests Dr. Hauser could
identify any abnormalities in Hannah’s physiology and
hormone
levels and use a diet plan with natural hormone replacement to regulate
these abnormalities. With a better functioning physiology and hormone
system, the potential for
Prolotherapy’s success in Hanna’s case would be maximized.
Hannah agreed to all of these labs and got
started right away with
Prolotherapy. Her first
Prolotherapy treatment consisted of approximately 200 injections to
her
low back,
thoracic, neck and
ankle. She given instructions to use heat and begin a supplement
regime.
Hanna’s second treatment and lab
testing:
Her second visit would consist of
Diet Typing, hormone testing and another session of
Prolotherapy injections,
(Watch where do
Prolotherapy injections go and do they hurt?) Hannah met with Dr. Hauser for another
round of
Prolotherapy injections. She had about a 10% decrease in pain after
her first treatment and was eager to get another treatment. Upon getting
Diet Typed, Hannah met with our nutrition coach and explained a few more
of her goals. Her first priority was to get out of pain, but she also
wanted to increase her
energy, reduce her PMS symptoms and increase her muscle mass.
Despite cardio boxing four times a week and weight training three times
a week she could not get her body fat percentage below 24%.
Hannah’s Diet Typing results:
Once Hannah’s
Diet Typing was completed we could see that her current vegetarian
diet was not the best for her physiology. Her
venous blood pH was normal but her
glucose tolerance test showed fast oxidation and glucose
intolerance. Her vegetarian diet was hurting her physiology and her
ability to heal. In order to heal quickly and increase her energy she
would need the
Otter Diet to balance her physiology. This diet plan is a high
protein, low carbohydrate diet, which is far different from a vegetarian
diet. Hannah was willing to give it a try, because it was evident now
that the vegetarian diet was actually working against her reaching her
health goals. She would also need to avoid her food sensitivities –
dairy, beef, gluten, almond, peanut, asparagus and kale. Hannah talked
at length with our nutrition coach to come up with a healthy diet plan.
Although she had been a vegetarian for a long time, she was willing to
add turkey and chicken to her diet. She also added coconut milk, protein
shakes made with a pea protein powder, and quinoa to her diet plan.
Dr. Hauser also reviewed her hormone
levels and told her that her they were all within the normal limits. One
important aspect about Natural Medicine is to consider the individual’s
needs, and what is truly optimal for them. In Hannah’s case, he
recommended a small amount of DHEA to help with her healing. He also
asked her to limit her intense cardio workouts to light jogging. He
wanted her to remain active but not at an intensity level that could
cause re-injury. He assured her that she could return to her intense
workouts once her pain is resolved.
Hannah’s outcome:
Hannah ended up receiving four
Prolotherapy treatments and is easing back into her intense
workouts. As for the
Otter Diet
, she has seen some tremendous improvements from following
it. She lost nine pounds and saw a decrease in her body fat percentage!
Her energy was much higher, which greatly helped her ability to work 12
hour shifts. Hannah also reported that her PMS and cramping had ceased
and no longer caused trouble for her. She said the
Hauser Diet made huge improvements in her life and she was so
thankful that she found a healthy diet plan that works for her body. The
combination of
Prolotherapy and the
Hauser Diet helped Hannah get her life back.
