Sacroiliac Pain from Car Accident

Q. I was rear-ended in an automobile accident and had swelling and incredible burning all through my back. About 6 weeks after the accident, when I started to be on my feet more, I began to have pain into my right buttock area. It goes deep into my buttock and sometimes my whole right hip hurts. It feels like an "L" shape of pain down my lower right back into my right hip. The pain seems to travel across my pelvis as if to outline my pelvis on the right side. My chiropractor says it "sacroiliitis" and my psychiatrist reports me having sacroiliac joint restrictions. What do you think this is and could that rear ended accident cause this?

Dear Car Accident: Yes it seems that you injured your sacroiliac joint. By this I mean you stretched your sacroiliac ligaments or they became lax. Conservative treatment is generally all that is needed. Most would say that if you aren't significantly better by six weeks you should seriously consider a Prolotherapy visit. In other words if the ligaments haven't shown significant repair by then you need them stimulated to repair by Prolotherapy. You know they are repairing by you feeling better. If you aren't feeling better, time to consider Prolotherapy.
