Prolotherapy and Ligament Injury Links

Benign Congenital Hypermobility
An often overlooked but extremely important reason for chronic body pain is benign congenital hypermobility (BCH) Generalized joint hypermobility (loose joints in the entire body) due to ligamentous laxity occurs in about five percent of the population.

Ligament Injury and Referred Pain Patterns
The chief principle of Prolotherapy is that it treats the root cause of chronic pain and sports injuries—ligament and tendon weakness. The chief symptom of ligament and/or tendon injury is pain. The pain is aggravated by activity when tension is placed upon the ligament or tendon and usually subsides when the tension is relieved with inactivity. Often the general activity of the athlete is curtailed because of the pain.

Ligament Injury
We think many athletes and people suffering from chronic pain do not heal their initial injuries because of improper treatment. This improper treatment generally takes the form of one or all of the following recommendations: rest, ice, immobilization, anti-inflammatory medications, cortisone shots, taping, or bracing. The athlete and/or anyone suffering a soft injury should say: No to rest, No to ice, No to immobilization, No to anti-inflammatories, No to cortisone shots, No to taping, and finally, say No to bracing. If the athletes follow these seven no's they will be much more likely to heal sports injuries.

Connective Tissue Damage
There are many articles written on chronic pain though rarely is mention given to the main culprits for pain, the connective tissues of the spine and joints. Yet by addressing the deficiency of connect tissues, the lack of collagen and weakness in ligament, tendons, and muscle, even people with rheumatoid arthritis can be cured of their pain--even to test rheumatoid factor negative in the blood, previously thought irreversible.

Sports Injuries in the Older Athlete
Although activities may be helpful for cardiovascular fitness, there has been a rise in sports-related injuries. This is particularly significant for the older athlete. Previous injuries that occurred in earlier years, were of little consequence at the time, and that did not heal properly, may cause pain over the years due to the continuation of the degenerative process. Sprains and strains also occur more frequently due to the general physical condition of the older athlete and the lack of protective muscle strength of joints and ligaments.

There is no known cure for arthritis. Prolotherapy and nutritional supplements can help alleviate, reverse, or end arthritic pain by treating an underlying cause that contributes to degenerative disease, ligament laxity. Strengthening ligaments and other connective tissue can help prevent bone on bone arthritis from developing.
